AB de Villiers, legendary batsman, occasional wicket keeper and former captain of South Africa, has announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket at the age of 34. A modern great and arguably the best ODI batsman of all time, de Villiers said that he is "tired" in a video posted on Twitter and other social media outlets. In the video, AB refers to the 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is he has played for the Proteas, and says he has chosen to go out on a high note, following their recent series victories over India and Australia.

AB de Villiers will continue to play domestic cricket for the Titans in South Africa, and will presumably participate in various other domestic leagues around the world. This announcement comes days after his final game in IPL 2018 for Royal Challengers Bangalore, who were unable to make it to the playoffs.

AB de Villiers still holds the record for the fastest century in ODIs, having reached it in 31 balls on his way to a 44-ball 149 against the West Indies ast Johannesburg in 2015. The same year, in the World Cup and again against the West Indies, de Villiers became the fastest to 150 runs in an innings, reaching it in 64 balls on his way to an unbeaten 162* from 66 balls.
