Sri Lankan selectors given extension till end of 2017

Sanath Jayasuriya and his selection team have been retained and given a six-month extension. Jayasuriya will be the Chairman of the committee till the end of 2017.

Sports Minister, Dayasiri Jayasekara had decided that Sri Lanka should have got new set of selectors as the contract of Jayasuriya and his men was ended on 30th June. But after consulting and further deciding with the SLC, they decided to retain the current selecting committee.

Sri Lanka had got a bad start to the year by losing to Bangladesh in the test series, losing to Zimbabwe at home and also a bad Champions Trophy

Jayasuriya's committee had also selected a side that beat Australia 3-0 in the Test series. SLC thinks that the selction committee can do that once again.

Sanath Jayasuriya has now served as the Chief selector for Sri Lanka for three and a half years in the last five years.

Along with Jayasuriya his partners and former players, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Ranjith Madurasinghe Eric Upashantha and Asanka Gurusinha have been retained and they will continue being in the selection committee.
