91.5 - Dushmantha Chameera to Wagner, SIX, first six of the morning. 135 ks lifter from Chameera. Hurried Wagner onto hook shot. Wagner rocks back and gets a thick top-edge which sails over the fine leg fence

68.3 - Dushmantha Chameera to Brendon McCullum, SIX, oh my! Any ground will be small enough for in-the-mood McCullum. Fullish on a tight line on off, McCullum backs away, throws his hands at it, slices it in the air and it goes all the way over sweeper cover

96.1 - Pradeep to Doug Bracewell, out Lbw!! Up goes the finger and down goes Bracewell's head in disappointment. He puts his head down, digs the bat in with both hands and trudges back with a sorry face. Must have thought about his maiden fifty, poor lad! That's the way cricket is. Full inswinger from Pradeep and Bracewell was smidgen late on his flick. That's just enough to strike his front pad on middle and umpire Richard Kettleborough had no doubts on this one. Replays suggest: Bracewell wanted to review that one but Kettleborough indicated that there was some technical issue. Quite unusual but I reckon DRS might not have altered the onfield verdict. 95.0 - Pradeep to Wagner, out Caught by Udara Jayasundera!! Wagner looked a bit itchy and his trying-to-wag-a-few innings has come to an end. It's his favourite stroke that brings his downfall. Short and rearing into the batsman. Wagner hangs back and goes for the hook. Gets a faint top-edge which flies straight down the throat of the debutant at long leg. Now, is that a trap? I think so. 85.0 - Mathews to Guptill, out Caught by Chandimal!! That'll be it from Guptill. End of a fantastic knock from the New Zealand opener and he gets a pat on the back from the Lankan fieldsmen. Mathews is a relieved man as he nips out the big fish. Has his arms aloft and jumps in joy. Coming to the dismissal: Pitched on a good length and seamed away late, Guptill poked with laden feet. 80.1 - Dushmantha Chameera to Watling, out Caught by Kithuruwan Vithanage!! Aaaaaaaaand he gets a wicket straightaway. Watling never looked comfortable at the crease and Chameera ticks off yet another in his wickets column. Chameera sprints in, hits the deck hard and extracts venomous bounce on this back of a length delivery. Watling was trying to ramp over backward point with a flat-bat. Couldn't get on top of the bounce and ends up feeding an outside edge to Vithanage (at backward point) who reverse-cups at head height. 78.1 - Dushmantha Chameera to Mitchell Santner, out Caught by Chandimal!! Got 'em. Dushmantha Chameera claims his first wicket in and against New Zealand. He has bowled with a lot of heart and finally gets rewarded. He pitched this one on a good length and made the ball to shape away late, enticing Santner to offer a stroke. Siriwardana has a knack of providing breakthroughs in his brief Test career and here he is picking up the important scalp in the form of New Zealand skipper. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, are happy to see the back of Baz. End of an entertaining knock. This was pushed through quicker on leg-stump line, McCullum was a bit early on his slog-sweep. 59.0 - Pradeep to Ross Taylor, out Lbw!! And Taylor never looked settled. Got off the mark with a edgy boundary and could only manage a top-edge off the last ball pull. Pradeep was bringing the ball back in, Taylor had shuffled too far across his stumps to clip this. Missed and was rapped on the pads. Looked leg-sidish and would have clipped leg. 54.5 - Pradeep to Williamson, out Caught by Karunaratne!! Oh! Williamson departs with just one ball to go before tea. He lets out the frustation as he blows out his unshaven cheeks in disappointment. A lapse in concentration? Certainly looked like. A rarity from one of the class players of current generation. But that is what Test match cricket is all about. One can never afford to be casual at any stage. Coming to the dismissal: Nipping away from a good length, Williamson has a waft. 16.0 - Lakmal to Latham, out Caught&Bowled!! It's like cooking for a dinner date only to spill the food over when the guests arrive. Last one was a stylish flick, this one was a straight chip to the bowler who manages to pouch onto that somehow. Straighter than the previous delivery, Latham wanted to punch it past the bowler but ended up handing a hip-high catch to Lakmal in his new spell. Latham c and b Lakmal 22(46) [4s-3]

81.5 - Pradeep to Doug Bracewell, no run, Sri Lankan fielders appeal in unison as soon as the ball struck Bracewell's front pad. It was a full inswinger and Bracewell got a thick inside edge on the flick. Mathews go up for a review after a brief conflab with his bowler. It all proved to be in vain though

70.3 - Wagner to Mathews, out Bowled!! That was a beautifully planned out dismissal and Wagner punches the air in delight. Roars! Two short deliveries later, Mathews was expecting another one but Wagner bowled it full on middle. Mathews was surprised, the ball took the left pad and nutmegged him to take the middle pole down. 50.1 - Southee to Kusal Mendis, out Caught by Watling!! That takes Watling to most dismissals by a NZ wicket-keeper in a Test match. The ball was full and moved away ever so slightly, Mendis eked out an outside edge and the keeper dived to his right and managed to hold the ball just inches above the ground. 32.3 - Wagner to Udara Jayasundera, out Caught by Watling!! Not a great debut for Udara Jayasundera. He could only manage a combined score of 4 in his first Test innings. Jittery times? This was short and down leg, Jayasundera decides to pull and then makes a let decision to let the ball go. 26.2 - Southee to Karunaratne, out Caught by Watling!! Watling makes amends for the previous drop and finally New Zealand get their first wicket. This one was banged in short and Southee generated vicious bounce outside off. Karunaratne, who has been so patient so far, looks to late-cut it over the keeper. 76.5 - Wagner to Siriwardana, no run, the ball was bowled very full. A knee high full toss that swung in and rapped him straight in front. Given out onfield, but the HawkEye suggested that ball would have slid across off. Not sure how that's possible because the ball curved in the air and looked out to the naked eye. Decision reversed and Siriwardana stays

75.5 - Mitchell Santner to Kithuruwan Vithanage, no run, loud, loud appeal. New Zealand have reviewed the LBW decision. Fair delivery. No bat involved as Vithanage hadn't played a shot. The ball turned in and bounced, Vithanage presented his front leg's thigh to invite an appeal. The ball would have slid down the leg-side. Was high too. On-field decision stays.

59.0 - Southee to Chandimal, 1 run, ho ho. Foreign shores, looking to save a Test match and you look comfortable pulling a rising short delivery to square leg to bring up your half-century. Cannot be from a player who's not special. Wonderful knock that will remind you that you play cricket to score runs. Might not come off on other days but the intent is applaudable
