In a first for Pakistan cricket, active players have been included in the board’s cricket committee as it aims to better understand the demands of the modern game.

Pakistan’s Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq and veteran batsman Younis Khan, who have played a total of 656 international matches between them, are the two cricketers on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) committee.

In July this year, the PCB had announced plans to introduce a ‘cricketer’s committee’ which was to serve the interests of current and former players and act as a bridge between them and the board.

But on Tuesday, PCB chief Shaharyar Khan revealed that Younis and Misbah had been added to the already functioning ‘cricket committee’.

“

This is a very important decision that the Board of Governors has taken. Younis and Misbah will be offering their input purely on cricketing matters whenever they are available.

”

Shaharyar told reporters in Lahore.

“We are giving importance to the fact that current players who understand the modern game be available for consultation on cricketing matters.”

Misbah and Younis have both retired from the limited-overs format and only play Test cricket. Both players are considered to have a very good rapport with current players.

Misbah has hinted he may retire from Tests as well if a scheduled series between Pakistan and India takes place in December.

But Shaharyar once again clarified that a final decision on the fixture would be taken in consultation with the government after India said it would not travel to Pakistan or UAE for the matches.

“There is no question of playing in India. I’m still awaiting the reason of not playing in UAE,” Khan said.
