Hong Kong team receives major funding boost after WT20

The Hong Kong Cricket Association (HKCA) on Monday (April 11) announced the list of contracted players following a confirmation of partnership with the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI), which has pledged its support to the men's cricket team for the year 2016-17 following their qualification for the ICC World T20 2016.

The partnership will sponsor the athletes under HKSI's Individual Athletes Support Scheme. Various supports from the scheme include the provision of direct financial support (monthly grant to the team members), sports science and medicine services, strength and conditioning support, use of HKSI's facilities, and various athlete development programmes.Charlie Burke, HKCA Director of Cricket, said

The support is vital in our quest to prepare as well as we possibly can for the World Cup Qualifiers and Asian Games in 2018.HKSI support to the athletes and the overall program budget allows more time with the athletes and we also get the access and use of the wonderful facility and professional resources in Fo Tan.

He also added with enthusiasm ,"It is a huge 12 months to ensure we not only maintain this position but also start climbing the rankings. We will have around 4-6 players based overseas during our off-season playing in the UK and India which will assist their development ahead of our next International tour in Ireland and Scotland".
