Trevor Bailey, the stonewaller

Bailey's terribly slow batting during the 1958/59 series in Australia became a subject of jokes and jibes.

While Bailey was batting pathetically at Brisbane, at one point, Ron Roberts asked George Duckworth, the scorer, "When did Bailey come in, George?"

Duckworth: "Half past two."

Roberts: "Yes, but which day?"

In that match, Bailey scored 95 runs off 543 balls!
