In a match against Yorkshire, Mike Brearley and Phil Edmonds tried something strange in order to get the batsman out.
They placed a helmet at short midwicket to entice the batsman to play across the line.
Didn't work but regulations were amended due to this.
From then on ,it has been manatory to keep the helmet behind the keeper.
