Angelo Mathews has decided to take matters in his own hands with just 140 runs in the cupboard.

Out walk the new English opening pair of Jason Roy and Buttler. Would be very exciting to see how the man who was once a makeshift keeper fares as a makeshift opener. Well he has all the ingredients to become an English Gilly in the making.

An underwhelming innings from Sri Lanka. They seemed to have arrived at an ice rink in embarrassingly polished spike boots. Just lost too many wickets too soon. Opting to bat first, Gunathilaka showed some promise at the top but didn't last long. Mendis, Mathews and Rambukwella all got starts but failed to get going. Chastened by the spate of wicket-falls, the best plan for the Lankans would have been to get a partnership in the middle. Instead, they tried to hit their way out of trouble. And as is the case often, the ploy did not work out well. For England, Dawson bowled with great accuracy and bite. He did not let the batsmen settle into any sort of rhythm against his crafty deliveries. Plunkett and Jordan were at their best in the death overs. England were sharp in the field, effecting direct-hits at will. There were also aided by some sloppy running between the wickets from the Sri Lankan batsmen. An easy chase beckons for Morgan and Co. Join us shortly for the chase.

Pradeep 0(1) Chaminda Bandara 2(4) Jordan 4-0-29-3

19.6 - Jordan to Pradeep, out Bowled!! Castled! Excellent stuff from Jordan. Just too good for a No. 11. The perfect yorker, Pradeep made room to carve through the off-side, missed and the ball crashed into the base of off-stump. Good comeback by Jordan, who was smacked for 20 runs in his 2nd over. He ends with impressive figures of 4-0-29-3. Pradeep b Jordan 0(1)

Jordan to Pradeep, THAT'S OUT!! Bowled!!

Nuwan Pradeep, right handed bat, comes to the crease

19.5 - Jordan to Maharoof, out Caught by (sub)Willey!! Maharoof had to go for it and all he can do is find the fielder. Length delivery right in the hitting zone, Maharoof winds up by clearing his front leg, smacks it straight down the throat of long-on, where Willey reverse cups it. It was there to be hit and Maharoof could not capitalize. Maharoof c (sub)Willey b Jordan 10(16)

Jordan to Maharoof, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

19.4 - Jordan to Maharoof, no run, Jordan is mixing it up nicely. Shortens the length and gets some zip off the surface, Maharoof makes room and has a crack at that, only connects with air

19.3 - Jordan to Maharoof, no run, Maharoof charges down while backing away, jams it off the inside edge onto the pad. The ball goes to the left of Jordan, no chance of a single

19.2 - Jordan to Chaminda Bandara, byes, 1 run, Jordan keeps it simple, slants it across the left-hander, Bandara goes for a wild mow and fails to connect, Maharoof calls for a quick run and he makes it with a dive. Would have been close had Buttler had the stumps

19.1 - Jordan to Maharoof, 1 run, misses the yorker length and dishes out a fuller length delivery, Maharoof drives to mid-off, where Plunkett fumbles and allows the batsmen to sneak in a single

Maharoof 9(12) Chaminda Bandara 2(3) Plunkett 4-0-27-2

18.6 - Plunkett to Maharoof, 1 run, Maharoof shuffles across and Plunkett digs it short, tucked away behind square on the leg-side, just a single and Plunkett finishes a fine spell, his figures read: 4-0-27-2

18.5 - Plunkett to Maharoof, no run, pitched up and in the slot, Maharoof drills the drive to mid-off, straight to Roy. He might feel he missed out there

18.4 - Plunkett to Maharoof, 2 runs, once more Plunkett follows Maharoof, who is backing away to leg, squeezed in front of square on the leg-side, right between long-on and deep mid-wicket. Couple added to the total

18.3 - Plunkett to Maharoof, no run, Maharoof walks away to the leg-side and attempts the loft on this length delivery, hits it in the air and luckily for him the ball drops in front of Roy at mid-off

18.2 - Plunkett to Chaminda Bandara, 1 run, pitched up outside off, Bandara eases it towards cover, the fielder dives to his left and parries it wide of mid-off

Plunkett switches to round the wicket...

18.1 - Plunkett to Maharoof, 1 run, short of length on off, Maharoof drops it into the off-side, calls for a single and gets it easily

17.6 - Jordan to Chaminda Bandara, no run, slanted across the left-hander, Bandara has a swing of the bat and connects with thin air

17.5 - Jordan to Maharoof, 1 run, very full and almost in the blockhole, Maharoof squeezes it to mid-off and hares to the other end, there is a direct-hit, but Maharoof has made it in comfortably

17.4 - Jordan to Maharoof, 2 runs, fullish and on the stumps, flicked away to deep square leg, Buttler gets a bad throw and he fumbles, the duo have enough time to sprint back for the second

17.3 - Jordan to Chaminda Bandara, 1 run, back of a length on middle and leg, tucked away to the on-side and straightaway set off, another risky run and they have got away with it

Chaminda Bandara, left handed bat, comes to the crease

17.2 - Jordan to Chandimal, out Caught by Eoin Morgan!! Morgan is running off the field after completing the catch. Seems to have hurt it in the process. Sri Lanka's last hope to reach a good score departs. Full delivery around off, Chandimal moves to the leg-side to go over extra cover, gets it off the base of the bat and lobs a dolly to Morgan. The England skipper jerked his left hand and ran off the field. Hope it is not serious as England might need him with a bat. Chandimal c Eoin Morgan b Jordan 23(22) [4s-1 6s-1]

16.6 - Tymal Mills to Maharoof, 1 run, allows the slower delivery to arrive and then directs it to backward point with an open bat face. Mills finishes his spell with figures: 4-0-22-0. He has the pace and a well-disguised slower ball, but needs to be a bit more consistent and should hit the fuller length

16.5 - Tymal Mills to Maharoof, no run, another dot ball. Good length ball on the fourth stump line, blocked from the crease to mid-off

16.4 - Tymal Mills to Maharoof, no run, short of length close to off, Maharoof offers a copybook back foot defence

16.3 - Tymal Mills to Chandimal, 1 run, changes the pace and hurls it back of a length, Chandimal opens the bat face and runs it down to third man

16.2 - Tymal Mills to Chandimal, FOUR, short and outside off, Chandimal's eyes lit up seeing the width on that one, gets on top of it and cracks it behind point, the pace of Mills took it to the fence beating third man

16.1 - Tymal Mills to Chandimal, no run, bouncer outside off, Chandimal sways away from the line of the delivery

15.5 - Plunkett to S Prasanna, out Caught by Buttler!! A soft dismissal. Someone needs to stay with Chandimal, otherwise they will end up with a below par total. Nothing but a harmless back of a length delivery just outside off, Prasanna wanted to steer it to third man, gets a thick outside edge, which is gobbled up by Buttler. S Prasanna c Buttler b Plunkett 1(3)

Plunkett to S Prasanna, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

15.4 - Plunkett to Chandimal, 1 run, another indecision between the batsmen. Chandimal tucked the back of a length delivery to backward square and called for two, Prasanna was coming back before Chandimal changed his mind. Sent him back in the nick of time

15.3 - Plunkett to Chandimal, leg byes, FOUR, Plunkett sprays it down leg and Chandimal misses out on the flick. However, the ball brushed the thigh pad and raced away fine. Handy runs these

15.2 - Plunkett to Chandimal, SIX, Sri Lanka need plenty more of this. Slight shimmy down the wicket, converts it into a length delivery, presents the full face of the bat and creams it over long-on. Sailed comfortably over the rope

15.1 - Plunkett to Chandimal, 2 runs, straightaway hits the yorker length, Chandimal sinks low, opens the bat face and directs it behind point, by the time third man cleaned up, the batsmen come back for the second

14.6 - Tymal Mills to S Prasanna, no run, short and outside off, Prasanna gets on top of it and cuts it to backward point, straight to the fielder

14.5 - Tymal Mills to Chandimal, 1 run, what are they doing? Chandimal was almost gone. He was not even in the frame had the ball hits the stumps. The slower delivery outside off, chopped off the inside edge to Buttler, who fires at the bowler's end and misses

14.4 - Tymal Mills to S Prasanna, 1 run, again, Mills keeps it on the shorter side, Prasanna rides the bounce and late cuts it to third man

14.3 - Tymal Mills to Chandimal, 1 run, shortish and just outside off, guided away towards third man

Seekkuge Prasanna, right handed bat, comes to the crease

14.2 - Tymal Mills to Rambukwella, out Rambukwella Run Out!! Not sure why Rambukwella didn't put in the dive. Short of a length delivery around off, Rambukwella stands tall and guides it to backward point, Chandimal calls for the single and Rambukwella responds, Vince moves forward, collects the ball and hits timber at the bowler's end. Rambukwella was well short of the crease. Rambukwella run out (James Vince) 19(16) [4s-1 6s-1]

Tymal Mills to Rambukwella, THAT'S OUT!! Run Out!!

Third umpire called in for a run-out check. Rambukwella is the man in question. He is a goner. Short by almost a feet. Not great running.

14.1 - Tymal Mills to Chandimal, 1 run, Chandimal has not timed one delivery that I remember. Mills charges in from round the wicket, sees the batsman give him the charge and pulls the length back, mistimed the pull to the right of mid-on

13.6 - Adil Rashid to Rambukwella, 2 runs, another mighty bat-swing from Rambukwella, again not off the middle and the batsmen get a couple before deep square leg tidies up

13.5 - Adil Rashid to Chandimal, 1 run, this time Chandimal connects with the cut and he sends it to sweeper cover

13.4 - Adil Rashid to Chandimal, no run, shortish and outside off, Chandimal mishits the cut to cover

13.3 - Adil Rashid to Rambukwella, 1 run, touch quicker from Rashid, Rambukwella mistimes the heave to deep mid-wicket

13.2 - Adil Rashid to Rambukwella, FOUR, a mishit and it is still four. Rambukwella is a strongly built man. Reminds me of Thisara Perera. Dances down and drags the pull off the inner part of the bat to deep square leg, placed it between the two fielders

13.1 - Adil Rashid to Rambukwella, SIX, finally, Rambukwella manages to connect with one. The length was fuller from Rashid and Rambukwella got underneath that, lofted it handsomely over long-off. Got plenty of power to clear the ground

12.6 - Liam Dawson to Rambukwella, 1 run, pushed through just outside off, Rambukwella flat-bats it past the non-striker, long-on tidies and the crowd stand up to cheer for the home boy, Liam Dawson, who has finished his spell: 4-0-27-3

12.5 - Liam Dawson to Chandimal, 1 run, shimmies down and closes the bat face again, the leading edge dribbles away to long-off

12.4 - Liam Dawson to Rambukwella, 1 run, quicker and just outside off, drilled down to long-on. Didn't middle and also broke his bat

12.3 - Liam Dawson to Chandimal, 1 run, Chandimal has lived dangerously. Couple of reverse sweeps missed and now a leading edge that evades everyone. He closes the bat face early on the nudge, the ball balloons and lands safely on the off-side

12.2 - Liam Dawson to Rambukwella, 1 run, Rambukwella clears his front leg to free his arms to ping the deep mid-wicket fence, drags it off the inner half of the bat to backward square leg

12.1 - Liam Dawson to Rambukwella, 2 runs, excellent stop from Vince. Rambukwella slog sweeps it towards deep mid-wicket. Vince and Roy converge from deep mid-wicket and long-on respectively, it is the former, who flicks the ball in play. The duo almost collided into each other

11.5 - Adil Rashid to Rambukwella, leg byes, 1 run, turning into the left-hander, Rambukwella shuffles across and fails to get bat on the glance, off the pad to short fine

11.4 - Adil Rashid to Rambukwella, no run, the wrong 'un and once again Rambukwella fails to read, goes for the hoick towards cow corner, the spin takes it away from the left-hander and he is beaten

11.3 - Adil Rashid to Rambukwella, no run, similar delivery to the previous one and Rambukwella has no clue about it, cuts and is beaten for pace. Nice take from Buttler behind the stumps

10.5 - Liam Dawson to Rambukwella, no run, touch quicker and around off, Rambukwella hangs back and taps it in front of short mid-wicket

Ramith Rambukwella, left handed bat, comes to the crease

10.4 - Liam Dawson to Dasun Shanaka, out Dasun Shanaka Run Out!! 1 run completed. Hara-kiri being committed by the Sri Lankan batsmen. First, Shanaka almost chips it to Morgan at cover, to make it worse they try and steal a second, only for Shanaka to lose his wicket. Flighted around off, Shanaka is deceived and he checks his shot, the ball lobs over Morgan. Roy runs forward from sweeper cover and sends in a bullet throw to Buttler, who has the bails off in a flash. Shanaka dived, but he was well short of the crease. Easy call for the third umpire. 10.3 - Liam Dawson to Mathews, out Bowled!! The dream continues for Dawson. Three wickets in three overs in his debut game. What more can a debutant ask? An ugly heave by Mathews. Very unlike him. Tossed up on middle and leg, Mathews sinks to one knee and looks to send it towards cow corner, is beaten by the lack of pace. 1.4 - Tymal Mills to K Perera, FOUR, Perera is off and running. Sees the width on offer and latches onto it, stands tall and slaps it over the infield on the off-side, the ball just about trickles to the fence. Not a quick outfield!

Ahem! Here's the final scorline of the super series: 20-4. Ouch! That's quite embarrassing for the tourists. Whew! What next? England v Pakistan, 1st Test. Where? The iconic Lord's cricket ground. When? You know. Hoping for another riveting season of cricket. That's a wrap of this tour. Till we meet next, totsiens from Raju Peethala on behalf of Akshay Maanay, Vineet Anantharaman, Sriram and our very own scorer Sreenivas. Someone ring the bells please.....

Uh-oh! There seems to be no post match talk from the captains. Wonder what Mathews would have said given the way things unfolded for his side. Nevertheless, Sri Lanka played some exciting cricket but just couldn't latch on when it mattered the most. It just got bad to worse for them. England, though are brimming with impeccable confidence. Their evolution in the shorter formats is quite some story I tell you. They, however, will be tested once again as another Asian rival Pakistan get ready to challenge them head-on. There's still a week left (14th July) for that! Mohammad Amir, who was known for all wrong reasons the lasted time visited the UK, has already started making the ball talk ....Oh! Test cricket!

"I've really enjoyed it. Delighted to take the opportunity and good to get a few off the middle. They were under par, probably 160 would have been a decent score. It suited us bowling first and we finished it off well. It's good to captain the side, great debuts for both of them. I've seen Liam bowl well. Mills did well, he hit 90mph more often than not. He has great skills and it is exciting to see him bowl well. Just see what happens and keep pushing for the rest of the summer" concedes Jos.

Buttler expectedly takes the Man of the Match award

The win however was set up in the first innings, with the Lankans continuing their hara-kiri with the running between the wickets and playing some ill-advised shots to succumb to a well below par 140. The bowlers had the batsmen up in knots, with the debutant Liam Dawson snaring three top order wickets to have them on the mat, after which they never recovered to hand the hosts another easy chase. Presentations in a moment..

Once again, the English do it with utmost ease. A glance at this scorecard would summarize how depressing this tour has been for the Lankans and also the immense gulf between these two teams. After a nought in the wins column across the three formats, this nightmare tour has finally come to an end, courtesy another rollover. But nothing to take away from this renewed English side playing a fearless brand of cricket. Jos Buttler, the makeshift opener in another of England's successful experiments, raced to his highest T20 score and with Morgan finding form for himself made this total of 140 seem like a walk in the park.

17.3 - Rambukwella to Eoin Morgan, SIX, Enough's enough decides the English skipper. Launches a dart over cow corner and pumps his fists in delight. The crowd stand and acclaim as the players shake hands, look at that dugout - England's I mean. They are loving it, aren't they? All smiles, plenty of cheerful pats, cheers, hoots and et al. So, England seal the one-off T20I and send Sri Lanka home sans a win against their name. The visitors have lost across all formats. It all started with the combo of Anderson and Broad in Test cricket, Jason Roy's juggernaut proved too hard to handle in the ODIs, Buttler and Morgan ensured there's no way back for the Lankan Lions in the lone T20I game. Summer bummer for Sri Lanka.

17.2 - Rambukwella to Buttler, 1 run, down the track to milk one down to long-on. Off to you skip.

17.1 - Rambukwella to Buttler, no run, full one at the pads, Buttler whips it hard, but instead hits it straight to short mid-wicket
