Lots of blue sky around as Warner plays a little shadow-jab while strolling out to the centre. Time to fill your coffers. Jerome Taylor rehearses his run-up. I can see three slips and a gully. And a sprinkling of people in the stands. Here we roll..

Lunch, Day 5: So, a curtailed but rushed first session to compensate for all the wait. Hazlewood and Pattinson started the proceedings expecting a damp pitch to play tricks but the spin-twins soon took over and put the visitors in a tangle. The ball turned in, turned away and messed with tentative techniques of the befuddled lower order batsmen. A few cherried boundaries in a largely defensive Windies cake that saw them get to a 300+ total but a win-the-toss-and-bat-first effort can be so much better than this. O'Keefe nourished his figures with two scalps while Lyon chipped in with one to scrap off the innings. Australia will look to swing their bat and get ready for India perhaps. Or they will just look to play the ball on the merit. We all know which is more likely. Join us in half an hour for what will hopefully be a rare rain-spared session of play at Sydney.

112.1 - O'Keefe to Jerome Taylor, out Caught by Lyon!! And that's a wrap. West Indies have notched up 330 runs after electing to win the toss. Not a bad effort to get to a 300+ score and having batted across all five days. Well, good effort from the Windies and the rain. The ball was short and wide, Taylor looked to flay the cut, got a top-edge that popped at a comfortable height to backward point. Jerome Taylor c Lyon b O'Keefe 13(27)

Warrican 21(29) Jerome Taylor 13(26) Lyon 46-12-120-3

111.6 - Lyon to Warrican, FOUR, that's lovely from Warrican and for a change, the ball runs through. The batsman skipped out of the pitch, hit through the line to loft it over the bowler's head. Lyon protracted his left hand up but the ball was too high. And too well-timed to defeat the outfield demons

111.5 - Lyon to Warrican, no run, drifts in from far outside off, Warrican gets low in defence

111.4 - Lyon to Jerome Taylor, 3 runs, veering into the pads, Taylor hauls his back leg in air, stretches it behind and flicks it to fine leg

111.3 - Lyon to Jerome Taylor, no run, lets the ball come to him and blunts it

111.2 - Lyon to Jerome Taylor, 2 runs, this outfield is very harsh to the Windies. Some width to swing a cat and Taylor freed his arms, timed the ball well but the ball stuck in the pitch, decelerated and the runs were kept to a couple

111.1 - Lyon to Jerome Taylor, no run, well played that. Deliciously flighted delivery, Taylor flays the drive straight to mid-off

110.6 - O'Keefe to Warrican, no run, flighted delivery and turning away a tad, Warrican can safely let it go to the keeper

110.5 - O'Keefe to Warrican, no run, another one's middled under the eye line

110.4 - O'Keefe to Warrican, no run, gets forward and meets the ball under his eyes

110.3 - O'Keefe to Jerome Taylor, 1 run, Taylor was rushed into his clip, squeezed out a leading edge that rolls to short third man

110.2 - O'Keefe to Jerome Taylor, no run, and another one that follows. Down leg, safely ignored

110.1 - O'Keefe to Jerome Taylor, no run, horror ball. Armer that's down the leg, Taylor isn't bothered

109.5 - Lyon to Warrican, FOUR, stretches his front leg out, gets down to lower his centre of gravity and sweeps it to deep square leg for four authoritative runs

108.5 - O'Keefe to Warrican, no run, into the pads and Warrican comes forward with a block

108.4 - O'Keefe to Warrican, no run, another defence that's middled back to the bowler. The line is within the stumps

108.3 - O'Keefe to Warrican, 2 runs, decided to take this one on. Gets forward and attempts the mighty heave. Fails to middle the ball and the ball is dragged back to long-on

Jerome Taylor 6(17) Warrican 11(14) Lyon 44-12-106-3

107.6 - Lyon to Jerome Taylor, no run, that ball spun in sharply. Got his length and line right there. Outside off and turning in to threaten the pad and the stumps. Taylor had done well to get outside the line as he was drawn forward in defence

107.5 - Lyon to Jerome Taylor, no run, spinning down the leg side again. All flight and the finger work in the drains as Taylor nonchalantly shoulders arms

107.4 - Lyon to Jerome Taylor, no run, turning across the batsman, Taylor lifts his bat and lets it go

107.3 - Lyon to Warrican, 3 runs, width and shorter in length too. Warrican gobbles up the cherried pie with a flaying cut shot. Had enough time to play it in front of square. Hauled back in inside the deep extra cover rope

107.2 - Lyon to Warrican, no run, just evades mid-off! Wanted to go over the cover, the length was there and so was the flight. But Warrican ended up miscuing it inches short of Hazlewood

107.1 - Lyon to Warrican, no run, shuffles to his off and lets the ball turn across him. Belatedly tries to lay bat on that but misses

Warrican 8(11) Jerome Taylor 6(8) Lyon 43-12-103-3

105.6 - Lyon to Warrican, no run, and this is another one. Caught Warrican tentative there as Warrican thought whether to play or not. Lets it go. Warney must be jumping in his chair in the commentary box

105.5 - Lyon to Warrican, no run, that's the leg spin! Rolls his wrists on this one and Warrican was all surprised

105.4 - Lyon to Warrican, 2 runs, ah, that looked well-timed as a Japanese bullet train but the soggy outfield plays the devil and denies Warrican a boundary. OR a six. Lyon had bowled it full and flighted it up generously, Warrican stayed put and just lifted through the line. Heartbreaking hauled back well inside the boundary ropes

105.3 - Lyon to Warrican, no run, spun back in, quality bounce too and Warrican ended up defending far outside the line. Rapped on the pads and stifled appeals followed

105.2 - Lyon to Warrican, no run, dragged back delivery that shoots back in off the pitch, Warrican stands tall and tucks it towards square leg

105.1 - Lyon to Warrican, no run, delicious flight that allows the ball to dip and turn, Warrican covers for it with a big front foot stride

104.3 - O'Keefe to Jerome Taylor, no run, one that's flighted and defended back

103.6 - Lyon to Warrican, no run, gets into a tangle as he looked to defend off the front foot. Somehow manages to get bat behind the line of the ball and defends it

103.5 - Lyon to Warrican, FOUR, ah, there's no holding back. And why would you? Gets on his knees, digests in the turn and helps it with a clobber through mid-wicket

103.4 - Lyon to Warrican, 2 runs, heaved into the leg side for a couple to deep mid-wicket

103.3 - Lyon to Warrican, no run, this one's defended with some solidity. Went forward and middled the defence

103.2 - Lyon to Warrican, no run, another one that turned in. Warrican was well forward but the ball turned more than anticipated, beat the inside edge and rapped the back thigh. Lobbed up towards slip to invite oohs and aahs

Jomel Warrican, right handed bat, comes to the crease

103.1 - Lyon to Roach, out Caught by Burns!! And the march back has begun. Under sunny skies, Lyon drags one back. Had bowled it very slow to allow it to turn. The pitch obliged and the ball spun in viciously, made Roach's hung back approach look mediocre as he took his bottom hand off while fending. The ball took the bat-pad and lobbed in front of the batsman. Burns ran in from FSL and grasped it with ease. Roach c Burns b Lyon 15(52) [4s-1]

102.6 - O'Keefe to Jerome Taylor, 2 runs, ooh, that's turned off the wicket line. Drifted in and absolutely bounced with turn to catch a tentative Taylor surprised. The outside edge rolled to third man for two runs

102.5 - O'Keefe to Jerome Taylor, 2 runs, and this one's held just inside the sweeper cover fence and Taylor gets off the mark. Has gone airy fairy over cover, not middled but good enough to let him get something against his name

Jerome Taylor, right handed bat, comes to the crease

102.4 - O'Keefe to Ramdin, out Caught by Smith!! And he perishes now. Had looked fidgety after getting to his half-century. There was minimal turn and bounce on this ball, the sort you expect on a makeshift Day 5 wicket. Ramdin slashes at it hard, got an outside edge that was palmed by Smith at first slip - skid across, stuck his hands out as he arched back and safely held on to it. 102.3 - O'Keefe to Ramdin, no run, some width again and Ramdin flashes at it again. Couldn't sweet-time it past point again

101.6 - Lyon to Ramdin, 3 runs, a greater horror this. Doesn't pitch at all and Ramdin flicks this full toss to deep mid-wicket. Deep square leg fielder runs across, picks the ball up and left-hands the throw back. 50 partnership up!

101.5 - Lyon to Ramdin, FOUR, this line's not working for Lyon. Gives him room outside leg again, Ramdin turns inside his crease and tickles it to fine leg. Not off the middle but you only need to do so much to get runs off that sort of a delivery

101.4 - Lyon to Roach, 1 run, flighted full on the pads, Roach stays hung back and clip shot to square leg

101.3 - Lyon to Roach, no run, turning down leg, wasted delivery and Roach lets it go

98.2 - O'Keefe to Roach, no run, gets forward this time and eases the defence to cover

98.1 - O'Keefe to Roach, no run, ooh, that turned! Drifted in, pitched and spun away to beat the forward defence. Roach could be blamed for not getting far forward there

87.3 - J Pattinson to Roach, no run, length delivery arrowing in, Roach stayed camped back and defends it under his eyes

87.2 - J Pattinson to Roach, no run, hurls this one fuller and brings Roach forward. The batsman ends up defending it off the outer half towards backward point

87.1 - J Pattinson to Roach, no run, back of a length delivery outside off, wouldn't harm a fly. Roach lets it go

Pattinson had bowled that ripper to send Carlos back. That was few days back. Here he is again..

86.6 - Hazlewood to Ramdin, 2 runs, length ball that didn't look too pacy, Ramdin was late in his defence and the ball rolled off the outside edge to deep backward point

86.5 - Hazlewood to Ramdin, no run, pitched up on off, Ramdin takes a half-stride forward and defends it before planting his front foot forward

86.4 - Hazlewood to Ramdin, 2 runs, fuller in length again and within the stumps, Ramdin backs away, lets the ball come to him and open-bats the jab to third man

86.3 - Hazlewood to Ramdin, no run, very full outside off, doesn't bounce much and the batsman shoulders arms

The players walk out. Three slips and a gully in place. Hazlewood on top of his mark..

11:05 Local Time, 00:05 GMT, 05:35 IST : Right, the umpires are out their with their cricket-feasibility glasses on. Expect some good news. And West Indies have only just arrived at the ground. That's taking an expired radar too much for granted! Okay, as promised, some good news for you. The play will start at 11:45 local and 79.4 overs are to be bowled today. Credit to the SCG for being a rain-gulping giant. Groundmen have been fantastic and administrators have followed suit by allowing free entry at the ground today. Umm, cricket starvation can make you do things.

10:36 Local Time, 23:36 GMT, 05:06 IST : Perhaps only the second positive update in about two and a half days this. The sun is out of its grey sheets now. The supersoppers are on, there's buzz around the dry-looking pitch and the sky's pretty clear. All augering well to see Pattinson steam in again.

10:10 Local Time, 23:10 GMT, 04:40 IST : It has stopped raining! There's a hint of sunshine and the covers have been ruthlessly peeled off. So many good news to take in at once. As they say, when hope grows, miracles blossom. Pardon my quote-sharing mood but I'm that ecstatic

Day 5: Ah, fifth day of a Test match. A modern rarity, much like a selfie-less get together or just a plain forward defensive shot. Thanks to buckets of rain and demotivating radars, West Indies have jet-skied their way into this day, something quite unprecedented given their current form and ability to inspire hopes. The day has again started with a drizzle, much like yesterday but the forecast isn't cricket-killing. So some bat-ball action looks a strong possibility later today. The pitch inspection is at 11:00 local, subject to rain stopping of course. Let's hope the poodles of water dry up, the depressing grey clouds clear up and the sun pierces through for finicky cricket to feel comfortable. Pray because I want to see Ramdin flash another handwritten "Talk nah" note.

13:00 Local Time, 02:00 GMT, 07:30 IST: Well, that was quick. Day 4 has met the same fate as Day 3. Play has been abandoned with the heavy rain taking its toll. Hopefully, and that is a big if, we will have some cricket tomorrow. For now, cheers and bye..

12:30 Local Time, 01:30 GMT, 07:00 IST: It's lunch on day 4 and a fifth successive session has been washed out. The showers are expected to ease out only by late evening. The SCG Test is heading towards a dull draw.

12:00 Local Time, 01:00 GMT, 06:30 IST: It's still pouring at the SCG and things look very bleak. The radar for the rest of the day is terrible as well.

11:20 Local Time, 00:20 GMT, 05:50 IST: With plenty of time already lost to rain, this Test is heading nowhere. West Indies coach, Phil Simmons, has said he isn't sure about the concept of double declarations. So there goes any chances of getting a result from this match. As for tomorrow's weather, it's expected to be much better at the moment, although today's prediction was also said to be the same at this time yesterday.

10:40 Local Time, 23:40 GMT, 05:10 IST : Those eager to know the state-of-affairs at Sydney need to answer a simple multiple-choice question. Here it goes below:

What's happening now at Sydney?
Option A: It's raining.
Option B: It's raining.
Option C: It's raining.
Option D: All of the above.

Umm, there are more than one correct answers. And a wrong response lets you bowl to 1009-not-out fame Pranav Dhanawade.

Day 4 : "There, there". That's what Dr. Sheldon Cooper would have said to me while awkwardly patting my back now. And a hot beverage in a fancy mug would have followed because I am upset. Upset with all the rain in Sydney and upset with being a die-hard optimist who still expects to see Lyon ripping it off today. With the rain currently pitting a lush SCG under covers, welcoming you hardly makes sense. But for the cricket romantic that each one of us is, I should. Welcome to another gloomy potentially rain-ruined day at the SCG. There could be no cricket possible yesterday and this day has begun on a similar grim note. No play looks possible in the immediate future. Stay hopeful. Stay calm.

15:35 Local Time, 04:35 GMT, 10:05 IST: This was always on the cards since morning. Rain has had the final say and Day 3 has been abandoned - without a ball being bowled. We have had just 86.2 overs over three days of the SCG Test and Australia's hopes of a series whitewash is slowly slipping away. Tomorrow's forecast has changed for the worse, but we are hopeful of getting some play in. Do join us for all the action, starting at 10 AM local. For now, cheers and bye..

15:05 Local Time, 04:05 GMT, 09:35 IST: Rain just refuses to ease at the SCG. The last time a full day's play being washed out on this ground was during the 1989-90 season.

14:05 Local Time, 03:05 GMT, 08:35 IST: Nothing new to add. The radar shows a big band of rain circling around Sydney and it simply refuses to go away. The wait continues..

13:10 Local Time, 02:10 GMT, 07:40 IST: We are past lunch but there's no change in the conditions. The radar forecasts at least one more heavy squall coming up before clearing the area around SCG. The outfield has taken quite a pounding, will we get some play?

12:30 Local Time, 01:30 GMT, 07:00 IST: Lunch has been taken at the SCG and the prospects of getting any play today is bleak. It is still pelting down, no signs of any action in the near future.

12:00 Local Time, 01:00 GMT, 06:30 IST: Rain, rain and more rain.. The wet weather is threatening to have the final say on Jane McGrath's day. The forecast for the rest of the day isn't any better although the good news is that the forecast for Day four and five seems to be pretty decent.

11:30 Local Time, 00:30 GMT, 06:00 IST: Nothing much to report. It is still raining, the crowd have been patient but this will be frustrating for all.

10:53 Local Time, 23:53 GMT, 05:23 IST : That scheduled inspection could have taken place if pigs had wings. With the rain pelting the white mega-covers and the soggy outfield, umpires opted for shade instead. I can totally imagine Ian Gould smirking at that statement. Stay tuned for further updates on rain. Not cricket. That looks far-fetched at the moment. Almost as ambitious as your new year resolution.

10:25 Local Time, 23:25 GMT, 04:55 IST : With the rain getting heavier, I don't practically see the inspection happening. Covers are obviously in place. Let's wait and wait and wait until some good news pierces our rain news-marred eardrums.

The current flavour of SCG is a grim grey but it's the Jane McGrath day and given that we get some play today, a different hue will undoubtedly rule the roost. It'd be everywhere - in Brett Lee's suit, in the sponsor's logo and in the crowd's shade. The colour's pink and the cause a very noble one. Never realised when this day sneaked into being one of cricket's most significant, rubbing shoulders with the Boxing Day. Talking of the cricket on offer, Ramdin's the only hope to push the total to a likely 300ish. There are two caveats though. The cricketing caveat is that the ball's pretty new and you can expect some serious gas from cricket-starved Aussie pacers. The weather caveat is that the radar's not promising at all. Let's hope that we see some action today. Fingers, limbs and toes all crossed.

Day 3: It's a hello from myself and the r-a-i-n-s. It's been raining since morning and the covers have been firmly in place until a few moments ago. There's an inspection scheduled at 10:30 am local. By the umpires. Who else?

16:33 Local Time, 05:33 GMT, 11:03 IST : So, as expected, rain has forced early stumps at the SCG. I won't get a chance to criticize cricket's archaic rain laws because it was pelting down in Sydney today. So much so that Melburnian Warne bashed Sydney's summer terming it "overrated" on Twitter. Outrageous but perhaps not completely wrong. Cricket had to be in its uber-evolved state to be played today - with torchlights, radium balls and laser bats under darkest of skies. Nothing much to write about the game today as only a handful of overs could be bowled. Carlos Brathwaite's swagtastic sixes were the highlight with Pattinson's Carlos-conquering stump-shattering ripper coming a close second. The West Indian also brought up his second Test fifty in the process. That's it from today. Join us at 10:00 local for another rain-permitting early start. And lots of "it's still raining" downers. Hopefully not. It's Pratyush Sinha bidding you goodbye on behalf of Mani and Pradeep. Take care.

16:30 Local Time, 05:30 GMT, 11:00 IST: It's still raining. You are an eternal optimist if you were expecting a different reply. There goes your Monday motivation. It's gloomy in Sydney and chances of further play looks bleak. Waiting for an official confirmation from the umpires.

15:40 Local Time, 04:40 GMT, 10:10 IST : If you were at the SCG right now, you'd be scared. Storm clouds have crowded the sky, much like people in a Mumbai local, and it's dark out there. Very dark. But for the rain, a pink ball and the floodlights could have helped to give us an early taste of a D/N Test here.

15:05 Local Time, 04:05 GMT, 09:35 IST: It is pelting down now and chances of any early resumption looks bleak. Will we have any more cricket for the day?

14:45 Local Time, 03:45 GMT, 09:15 IST: It is still raining at the SCG and the radar isn't the most promising either. In other news, there's a possibility of SCG hosting two Tests next summer, at least the Trust wants the chance of hosting an early summer Test against South Africa and the traditional New Year's Test against Pakistan. The last time SCG hosted two Tests in a season was during 2003-04 (against Zimbabwe and India).

14:05 Local Time, 03:05 GMT, 08:35 IST: The entire square has been covered. The rain has gotten heavier and are in for a long wait.

Just 11.2 overs have been bowled so far today. West Indies added 41 runs with Carlos Brathwaite being the chief contributor - making his 2nd Test fifty. He was dismissed by a cracker from Pattinson, just before the latest rain delay. Not much in terms of action, with rain being on and off. Hopefully, we will have more play soon.

13:42 Local Time, 02:42 GMT, 08:12 IST: That will be it for a while. Rain has made a reappearence and the players troop off. We will have another delay.

Welcome back.. We are set to resume play at 12:00 and lunch will be taken at 13:20. There will be no drinks break scheduled.

11:45 Local Time, 00:45 GMT, 06:15 IST: Rain is playing hide and seek at the moment. It has stopped once again and the covers are coming off. But for how long? The umpires are out in the middle for an inspection. We might actually get some play before lunch.

11:30 Local Time, 00:30 GMT, 06:00 IST: Scratch that previous update. The covers are back on. It's going to be such a day today.

11:25 Local Time, 00:25 GMT, 05:55 IST: The rain has stopped and the covers are being removed. Not sure about a restart time as yet.

11:00 Local Time, 00:00 GMT, 05:30 IST: The forecast was plenty of showers right throughout the day and it seems to be true. The rain has got heavier. We are in for a lengthy delay.

10:39 Local Time, 23:39 GMT, 05:09 IST: And the players are going off again! Rain returns. Not very heavy it seems as the players are meandering near the boundary ropes. Umpires have the big umbrellas up though. The rain seems to have stopped. Oh dear! The covers were taken off briefly before being put on again. It's raining again.

10:20 Local Time, 23:20 GMT, 04:50 IST: And there comes the rain. Didn't take long. It loves guest appearances. The gigantic cover is being unrolled on the pitch again. The weather has set the day's order very early and the radar doesn't seem to be a cricket fan right now. Stay tuned!

10:05 Local Time, 23:05 GMT, 04:35 IST : The start time has been revised to 10:15 local according to reports from the ground. It drizzled a little in the morning and the groundstaff needed just those extra few minutes to tidy up. The covers have been off for a while and the skies, though still grey and cloud-heavy, aren't dripping rain for now. Fingers crossed. What's given is that it is going to be a start-stop day. That is if the met office has got it spot on. Stay tuned.

Day 2: Hello and welcome to our coverage. Hope, figuratively and literally, started the day for the visitors yesterday but run-outs and an ever bizzare spin-playing technique soon took over. There were occasional ming-boggling big hits but the defensive blocks and quick singles were far and few. Result was a threatening 32-overs Lyonathon, the bowler been allowed to settle into a great bowling rhythm on a kinder turn-aiding Sydney pitch. Brathwaite rode the luck-train but fell 15 runs short of what would have been a great century. His put-a-price-on-your-wicket efforts were still noteworthy and saved the Windies some blushes.

A slow moving day by Australian standards. The hosts piled 500+ first innings totals in the first two Tests and West Indies must have felt that they have a realistic chance to replicate that on a dry-looking Sydney pitch. That when you minus their form and take all the dressing room pep-talk into account. But they shot themselves on the foot post a wholesome second-wicket stand, allowed Lyon to bowl 32 overs in the day and ended up having familiar sorry figures at the day's end. Samuels' careless run-out rung the danger bells as a near mandatory Windies collapse was effected at the SCG. Brathwaite's perseverance was backed by some luck but his efforts fell largely short of putting up a grace-saving display. Ramdin is at the crease and none of the Windies supporters would mind seeing another "Talk nah!" paper note from him tomorrow. Play begins half an hour early to make up for the time lost. Join us at 10:00 local for Day 2. Goodbye!

74.6 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, no run, and there's the flashy drive again. Width outside off allowed him to kneel and free his hands but just couldn't beat the fielder at cover. And that run-less stroke signals stumps

74.5 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, no run, another front foot defence that's played back to the bowler

74.4 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, no run, opts for some sanity as he defends it off the front foot

74.3 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, FOUR, compensates with too much of width on a shorter length, Brathwaite jumps on the run-wagon with a flashy cut through backward point

74.2 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, SIX, and he's clobbered it out of the ground! Looked all too easy for Brathwaite. Flighted on middle, Brathwaite swung his arms and slogged it into the long-on orbit

74.1 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, no run, defends it off the front foot back to the bowler

Ramdin 23(72) Brathwaite 25(29) Lyon 32-11-68-2

73.6 - Lyon to Ramdin, FOUR, that's the best shot he has played perhaps. Ramdin shuffles to his leg-stump, makes room and silks the drive through extra cover

73.5 - Lyon to Ramdin, no run, and that elusive bat-pad that Lyon had been aiming for since he started the round the wicket marathon. The ball turned in, gets the bat-pad and lobs as far as mid-wicket. So much wood on the bats, I tell you!

73.4 - Lyon to Brathwaite, 1 run, takes his front leg out of the line, gives himself room and pushes this tossed up delivery on leg stump to long-on

73.3 - Lyon to Ramdin, 1 run, stays put, arches towards the off-stump and tucks it off his hips to short fine leg

73.2 - Lyon to Ramdin, no run, pitching on leg stump and turning further down leg, Ramdin was hurried into his glance owing to the zippy bounce. Couldn't connect and the keeper tidies up behind

73.1 - Lyon to Brathwaite, 1 run, from round the wicket, drifts one down leg again, easy single off a clip to backward square leg

72.6 - O'Keefe to Ramdin, no run, another defensive bat-ball meeting under Ramdin's eyeline

72.5 - O'Keefe to Ramdin, no run, quick but width outside off, didn't threaten the stumps, Ramdin lets it go

72.4 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, 1 run, nudges this to mid-on and collects a very quick single

72.3 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, FOUR, that's bludgeoned! Flight outside off, Brathwaite leans in and powers the drive through covers. Holds his pose to make job easier for the camera men

72.2 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, no run, another one that's blunted with a forward lunge

72.1 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, no run, disciplined line and length outside off that brings Brathwaite forward, Brathwaite defends it under his eyes

71.6 - Lyon to Ramdin, no run, nearly! Goes hard with a premeditated slog sweep. Not much of a connection and nearly miscues it to mid-on

71.5 - Lyon to Ramdin, no run, a tad quick, Ramdin spots that, makes a move early and digs the forward defence into the pitch

71.4 - Lyon to Ramdin, no run, bowls this slower and wider of off, Ramdin had to come forward and across to defend that

71.3 - Lyon to Brathwaite, 1 run, there's nice and consistent drift. Swerves in, Brathwaite was forward to cover that and pushes the ball off the front foot to cover for a quick single

Just a slip now

71.2 - Lyon to Brathwaite, no run, presses forward and doesn't allow the ball to turn in

71.1 - Lyon to Brathwaite, no run, drifting in and bouncing off the pitch. A feature of Lyon's bowling today. Brathwaite turns inside his crease and fends it into the pitch

Ramdin 18(63) Brathwaite 17(20) O'Keefe 12-4-27-1

70.6 - O'Keefe to Ramdin, no run, bowled ultra slow through the air, Ramdin had to wait an eternity to lay a defensive bat onto that one

70.5 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, 1 run, swiped towards the backwards square leg fence. Was drifting in and Brathwaite helped it further with a bludgeoning yet not very effective sweep

70.4 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, no run, looking at how comfortably Brathwaite played the last ball, O'Keefe bowls it fuller. Brathwaite has to come forward but executes the defence well

70.3 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, no run, dragged down a touch, Brathwaite stands tall and plays a punchy defence off the back foot

70.2 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, no run, flighted outside off, the ball doesn't threaten to come in and Brathwaite easily lets it go

70.1 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, no run, full length delivery on middle, brings Brathwaite forward who obliges with a straight-bat defence

68.5 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, 2 runs, presses forward and nurdles one to deep mid-wicket for a very joggy brace

68.4 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, FOUR, flat and quick, Brathwaite gets on one knee and sweeps the ball out of his sight. Played with such nonchalance that. Backward square leg fence is the victim there

68.3 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, no run, flighted and just outside off, Brathwaite gets well forward and defends it

68.2 - O'Keefe to Brathwaite, no run, this time plays the forward defence and keeps the ball out

Rain lashed the SCG but the groundstaff have done a terrific job to get the players back on field. West Indies need to rebuild - after having squandered away the advantage gained in the first session of play.

15:50 Local Time, 04:50 GMT, 10:20 IST: Good news coming in from Sydney. The umpires have inspected the ground and we'll have a restart at 16:00 local

15:26 Local Time, 04:26 GMT, 09:56 IST: Covers being peeled off. Inspection is due at 15:45 local given there's no further rain.

15:14 Local Time, 04:14 GMT, 09:44 IST: It's officially Tea at the SCG. Meanwhile, a lap-of-honour that was scheduled for Clarke and Haddin during the tea-break has been postponed to a later date.

15:05 Local Time, 04:05 GMT, 09:35 IST: The rain seems to have eased but there are puddles of water on the ground. And they look huge. Suppersoppers are at work. Going to be a hard grind for the groundstaff to get the ground match-ready anytime soon. Keep the coffee-mug refilling on till we bring you more updates.

14:45 Local Time, 03:45 GMT, 09:15 IST: Queen Elizabeth II is still ruling the UK, Obama's still the US President and it's still raining at Sydney. Nothing new as of now. And just as I was typing that, something changed. And it's not good. The rain is heavier now, somewhat mimicking a torrential downpour. Oh dear! This looks like a long, long delay.

14:14 Local Time, 03:14 GMT, 08:44 IST: Just as you must have been settling in your couch to catch some Sunday morning cricket, the covers are back on. Yes, it's that sort of a day. The next three days threaten to be the same.

14:07 Local Time, 03:07 GMT, 08:37 IST: The rain has abated but the groundmen haven't taken the covers off. More as a precaution because the forecast isn't cricket-pampering. Hang on for more updates from Sydney. If there's no more rain, the play will resume in 5 minutes.

13:50 Local Time, 02:50 GMT, 08:20 IST: And rain makes an appearance. Heavens shedding tears seeing the just-happened runout. Looks like a drizzle but heavy enough to take the players off. The hessian was brought on in a hurry and the square has been covered up. Lets hope there's enough winds to take these cricket-killing clouds away! And rain's picking up. It's pouring now. Stay hopeful.

41.3 - Lyon to Samuels, out Samuels Run Out!! That's a horror. So bad that you would prefer watching this to a horror movie in a scare-me challengathon. There was some width on this flighted delivery outside off, Samuels flayed the cut and just decided to jog. No communication or calling. Hazlewood charges in from backward point, collects and throws it to Nevill who flicks the bail. Has an eternity to do that because the non-striker was perhaps waiting for the call. Actually he responded but turned around, slipped and dropped his bat mid-pitch to save himself. No one else should fall for that attempted run. No one else. Samuels didn't even attempt to turn back but his anger at Brathwaite's response was the thunder-stealer. Samuels run out (Hazlewood/Nevill) 4(20) [4s-1]

Lyon to Samuels, THAT'S OUT!! Run Out!!

Welcome back! Let's all hope that Australia had a good lunch because this morning wasn't the best for them. West Indies, sort of expected to underwhelm, built on the toss luck with decisive leaves and elusive aggression. Lyon stood apart with his loop-and-dip but couldn't breakthrough post Hazlewood's early snaffle. All to play in this session under low-hanging grey clouds. Pattinson to charge with the ball, 2 slips and a gully in place

West Indies' session, they won the toss, made the right call to bat first, lost Shai Hope early but have fought back well - through Kraigg Brathwaite and Darren Bravo. The former has been very positive, picking out bad balls to the fence while treating the rest with merit. He was positive against Nathan Lyon - never allowing the off-spinner to settle, on a pitch which already has some bite and turn. On the other hand, Darren Bravo, the best visting batsman on this tour has further enhanced his reputation with a sensible knock. Nothing much in the pitch for the pacers, although the ball did start to take turn in the first hour itself. Steven Smith didn't look pleased at times, barring a calamity, Australia look set for a long day in the field. Join us for the second session at 13:10 local

The cricket-sandwiched rains or the rain-marred Test ends in a disappointing draw. Had the play been possible on all five days, I can totally see a 3-0 scoreline. Not to be, but this ends a great consoling summer for the hosts after that deflating 3-2 Ashes loss. Modern West Indies sadly are a corollary of the self-defeating Caribbean theorem and they need to put the skates on to arrest the decline. And that has to happen quick. That's it from us then. Keep joining us for other matches. This is Pratyush Sinha bidding goodbye on behalf of Sagar Chawla and Mani. Take care.

Smith receives the Frank Worrell Trophy and his teammates crowd around him for some photographs. Everything out there too disciplined to digest. And now the jibes begin. Laughs as the shutterbugs capture snaps for their dailies.

Smith: "It's been a very good summer so far. Two Test series and winning 4 out of 6 Tests. Batters have scored 15 hundreds and bowlers managed 20 wickets on 4 occasions. It's been great fun. Guys are working hard. The cricket this summer has been satisfying and we want to adapt to conditions all round the world. The India ODIs should be good, they are a good side."

Holder: "We got better as the series went on. Slow start at Hobart. Bravo had a decent series for us. Brathwiate was good and Ramdin finished it well. We haven't played much international cricket and we have to be quick to adapt. Captaincy is hard work but I try to enjoy it. We can't be too disheartened and we have to move on. I want to thank Cricket Australia for the special preparations."

Voges: "Huge honor to win the inaugural Richie Benaud medal. I have been playing cricket for WA and it's been an amazing summer. Enjoying every minute of it. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and we have played a great summer. I don't have a choice in being the old man in the team. The team is in a transition and we have some challenges ahead. I enjoyed scoring at Hobart but runs at Perth against NZ is probably my favourite."

Adam Voges has been named Man of the Series for plundering 375 runs. Gets the Richie Benaud medal.

Warner: "No, not at all (if he realized it was SCG's fastest ton). Smith said out at the beginning that we're trying to get No. 1 in all formats. Trying to work out a technique against a swinging ball helped me score all the runs. I hope to keep playing positive cricket and carry the momentum to beat India in the ODIs."

David Warner is Man of the Match for his crowd-enthralling 122 not out

Steve O'Keefe reckons that playing an SCG Test was a dream come true for him. Hazlewood sounds a little disappointed with this Test match - the rains and his individual performance. He says he is fatigued at the end of 6 Tests. Pink ball Test was significant for him and he is looking forward to lead a pack of emerging quick bowlers.

Shake of hands and the players trudge off the field. And the skies are teasingly blue to mark the end of this rain-marred Test. Curtains on another Australian Test summer at the SCG but an uncharacteristic grey cloud blanket and eventual incessant pitter-patter stole away the thunder. Individual performances though still managed to shine in the finale of this Richie Benaud series. Kraigg Brathwaite steeled his way to a fiesty statement-making 88 while Warner typically blazed away to SCG's fastest ever century. Lyon turned it a mile to help us relive the SCG of the pre-drop-in era. Hang on for the presentations..
