BBL 05 Preview: Perth Scorchers

( 2590 views )

This team has been the reigning champions of BBL. Not only have they featured in every other final but they have gone onto win two consecutive titles making them the most successful team in the brief history of this competition.

Will they be third time lucky this year and win a hat-trick  of BBL championships? Let us shed some light on this team and take a sneak peak as to how they match up this year.

One of the primary reasons for the Scorcher's success is Michael Klinger who was the top scorer last season which also included a 60 ball 105 against the Renegades. At the age of 35, he continues to enthral one and all in the shortest format of the game.

His selection was on the cards off lately but was second choice to Shaun Marsh and a few others. Despite that, he has carrried on his form with Gloucestershire, finishing top scorer and then in the T20 Blast recording three hundreds in each format. Keeping in mind to this, it is only a matter of time until he gets a call for national duty.

At the age of 44, the oldest player to play in the league, Brad Hogg does not cease to tire you and is an absolute treat to the eye. His enthusiasm and energy is both infectious and invigorating. But mind you, he has not taken his cricket lightly even to the most miniscule of amounts and will be the frontline spinner for the Scorchers.

Jason Behrendorff, Andrew Tye who have been among the top wicket takers last year along with newest addition, Englands's now regular member David Willey, the Scorchers will surely have their eyes on the price. The Scorchers will have their concerns over the initial phases of this competition as most of the players including the Marsh brothers, Voges, Nathan-Coulter-Nile will be away serving the national side.

In that case, they will have to make the most of what they have and Perth will back themselves to do so with confidence brimming at an all time high.

This time round all the sides will be weary of what this side is capable of and will want to hunt them down and lay out all the possible thorns to derail them out of this race. Will the Scorchers be able to cope with the pressure or will they succumb to the mayhem on offer. Watch all the drama unleash on the 20th of December.
