Former all-rounder is new coach of New Zealand

Former New Zealand men's cricket all-rounder has been appointed as the bowling coach for the New Zealand women's team, the White Ferns. Since his retirement from cricket as a player, Oram has worked with members of the current New Zealand women's side in a coaching capacity, which gave him something of an edge over other candidates.

Oram played 33 Tests, 160 ODIs and 33 T20Is for New Zealand from 2001 to 2012. A tall, right-arm fast-medium pacer, Oram is remembered for his ODI bowling and his big hitting lower down the order, including a brutal 101* off 72 balls against Australia, his lone ODI century. After stepping down from international cricket, he spent two years playing List A and T20 cricket for various franchises. Over the years, he has represented Central Districts in New Zealand; Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL; and a number of teams in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Oram will be on an 18 month contract that will see him help the White Ferns prepare for the 2018 edition of the ICC Women's World T20, which will take place in November across the West Indies, in addition to their tour to England.
