Sanjay Bangar quits as Kings XI coach

Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar has confirmed that he has resigned as the coach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kings XI Punjab.

Bangar coached the team for three seasons, guiding them to their best ever finish in 2014 as they lost in the IPL final after topping the table in the league stage.

Kings XI couldn’t carry on that form, though, as they finished last in 2015 and 2016.

Sanjay Bangar said,

I submitted my resignation in the last week of November. They [the franchise] came back to me around the second week of December. I was totally engrossed in the [England] series and that is the reason why I sort of waited till the end of the series.

Virender Sehwag, the current mentor of KXIP might replace Bangar.

Earlier this week Kings XI Punjab listed the players that have been retained and released by them for the upcoming IPL season.
