Martin Guptill dropped from New Zealand Test squad

New Zealand have announced their Test squad for their series against Pakistan.

In a turn of events, opening batsman Martin Guptill has been dropped from the squad after rendering poor figures in New Zealand’s tour of India.

Another player whose exclusion is surprising is wicketkeeper-batsman Luke Ronchi, who has been dropped despite being the highest run-getter for New Zealand in their India tour

Other names who were dropped were Jeetan Patel, Doug Bracewell and Ish Sodhi.

Uncapped batsman Jeet Raval and allrounder Colin de Grandhomme have been picked, while allrounder Todd Astle has been recalled to the squad after 4 years.

New Zealand selector Gavin Larsen said,

Luke, Martin, Doug miss out this series, but we know that they and the others who miss out will continue to work hard on their game and get the chance to continue staking a claim in the domestic competition.

Plenty of players missed out due to injuries, the most crucial being Mitchell Santner. Others include Mark Craig, Adam Milne, Mitchell McClenaghan, Colin Munro and George Worker.

The first Test begins from November 17, 2016 in Christchurch.

New Zealand squad:

Kane Williamson (c), Todd Astle, Trent Boult, Colin de Grandhomme, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Henry Nicholls, Jimmy Neesham, Jeet Raval, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Neil Wagner, BJ Watling
