The Afghanistan national cricket team is expecting to play series of matches against the current world T20 champions next year, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has said.

According to ACB, an agreement has reached between West Indies and Afghanistan Cricket Boards to play 5 ODIs and 3 T20Is in June, 2017 in West Indies.

This will be the first time that the two sides face each other in a full series.

CEO of the ACB, Shafiq Stanikazi said -

This is a major series with very attractive teams featuring some of the world’s best players. We look forward to some very entertaining cricket in T20 and ODI. On behalf of Afghanistan Cricket Board, I am very thankful to West Indies Cricket Board for agreeing to be hosts for the series.

WICB’s CEO, Michael Muirhead noted that “this series will add to the variety of cricket our teams will be playing for the next year and we are happy to be able to have teams visit the region to add exposure for all our players.

The series is due to start mid-June and the specific dates and venues will be announced in due course.

The Afghan team defeated West Indies in the ICC WorldT20 by 6 runs mainly with the support of the Afghan bowlers who successfully restricted the batsmen of West Indies to 117 runs as they were chasing a target of 124 runs set by the Afghan team.
