Rising Pune Supergiants sign George Bailey

The 33 years old Australian batsman George Bailey has been registered by the Rising Pune Supergiants as the replacement for Faf du Plessis, who was ruled out of the IPL with a finger injury.

This will be the third IPL franchise for Bailey, he has already represented Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab, where he was the captain last year before the franchise decided to release him. At the auction in February, Bailey, who had listed his base price as Rs 1 crore (USD 148,000 approx), did not find any buyers despite his name coming up twice.

Supergiants have endured a string of losses and are currently sixth on the points table with just two wins in eight games, while injuries have added to their woe, with four of their first-picked players ruled out of IPL.
The new franchise has lost Kevin Pietersen, Faf du Plessis, Mitchell Marsh and Steven Smith and are able to secure only two new replacements for now.

Bailey has previously played under MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming while at Chennai Super Kings. The Supergiants will hope that the inclusion of the Australian boosts the struggling side back into the reckoning for the next stage.
