Northants' Olly Stone to miss the rest of the season

Northamptonshire fast bowler Olly Stone has suffered a compact knee injury involving his anterior cruciate ligament and cartilage and will not be playing the rest of the season.

The injury occurred in Northants seven-wicket win over Worcestershire in the T20 Blast on Friday after he landed badly while jumping for joy after taking the wicket of player Moeen Ali.

Stone broke down in his run-up in attempting to bowl his next delivery and had to be carried from the field. Scans revealed the extent of the damage, which forbade him from playing further.

Stone has had a career full of injuries so far that have hampered his progress in recent years, including problems to his fingers, shin and back.

Barry Goudriaan, Head Physio at Northants, said,

We will do all we can to support Olly through a programme of treatment and recovery.

He further said, “He couldn't be in better hands with our local consultant Professor Bill Ribbans and now Mr Andrew Williams in London.”
