National Cricket Academy to move out of Bangalore

The Board of Control for Cricket in India-run National Cricket Academy (NCA) is going north. Literally. The NCA committee, which met in Delhi on Wednesday, decided to recommend that the facility be moved to either Punjab or Himachal Pradesh.

Dharamshala and Mohali are in the shortlist and it won't be a surprise if the centre moved to Himachal.

A final decision has not been made, but yes Dharamshala is a strong contender. This is not because it is the board secretary's centre, but because of the facilities. The weather there is particularly good in summer

 - a member of the NCA committee said.

Punjab too has its backers. The NCA Committee chairman MP Pandove is the secretary of the Punjab Cricket Association and he is hoping to take it to Mohali. It is felt that Bengaluru is not suited for grandiose future plans for the NCA as it would require a large piece of land. Initially, the plan was to move it to Pune.

The BCCI plans to turn the NCA into a high-performance centre on the lines of the one run by Cricket Australia in Brisbane. The CA officials and coaches will help convert the NCA into a state of the art high-performance centre.

Meanwhile, the NCA Committee has decided to appoint specialist bowling and batting coaches for academy. Applications will be scanned after Aug 15, the last date. The Sandeep Patil-led national selection committee, with assistance from NCA director Brijesh Patel, will shortlist the names for the posts. It is learnt that each post has attracted 10 applications.
