India to host its first day-night test match

India will host their first ever day-night Test match against New Zealand. The Kiwis are set to tour India later this year.

Anurag Thakur, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, announced,

We have decided that we will play one day-night Test match with the pink ball against New Zealand later this year. Before that, the Duleep Trophy will act as a dress rehearsal for the day-night Test match.

He further added, “While we have not zeroed in on the venue, there are lots of factors that need to be taken into account. Things like the dew factor, how the spinners bowl with the pink kookaburra ball on Indian pitches. Of these things, we will get an idea during the Duleep Trophy."

All the leading Indian players will be expected to play in the Duleep game in order to get an idea and also give a feedback to the board before they go ahead with the Test match.

Last year, Australia defeated New Zealand in the first ever day-night Test match in Adelaide in November. Despite some complaints about the quality of the ball used, cricket's custodians were impressed by the capacity turnout and have already made plans to host more such matches.
