Former legend Joel Garner appointed as the manager of West Indies team

Former West Indies fast bowler Joel Garner has been roped in as the team manager of the national cricket team ahead of the Test series against India.

The 63-year-old will serve at the post for the next three years.

Expressing happiness over the appointment, Garner said he is looking forward to share his experience with the players.

Garner added -

I always answer the call in West Indies cricket. It is always an honour to serve in any capacity in West Indies cricket and I'm pleased to be back with the team as manager to share my knowledge and experience to the team and be an ambassador for West Indies cricket and the region.

The former Caribbean bowler, who was also a part of the squad that won the World Cup in 1979, served as the team's interim manager from 2009 to 2010.

Garner has been involved in number of roles for the country, including director on the board for West Indies Cricket Board, president of the Barbados Cricket Association and the West Indies A team manager.

West Indies will play a four-match Test series against India, starting in Sir Vivian Richards Stadium from July 21.
