The host of the Asia Cup T20 face a telling blow as their strike bowler Mustafizur Rahman is ruled out of the Asia Cup T20 due to a side strain sustained during Bangladesh’s victory against Sri Lanka in their last game.

The left-arm pacer was a vital part in defeating Sri Lanka and ended with match figures of 19 for 1 in his 4 overs.

The BCB released a statement saying, “Bangladesh pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman has suffered a side strain and will not play any further part in the Micromax Asia Cup T20.”

It is referred as a 'Grade I' side strain which can also make him a doubtful starter for Bangladesh’s qualifying round matches for the World T20 starting from 8th  March against the Netherlands and the Ireland.

Bayjedul Islam Khan, the Bangladesh team physio stated, "Mustafiz complained of discomfort after Sunday’s match against Sri Lanka. An MRI scan was done and the report from the radiologist confirmed a Grade-1 side strain on the right. He is under conservative treatment and rest for next 48 hours. Following that, the rehab will begin. We are expecting that he will make a quick recovery and resume bowling soon.”

Bangladesh has recalled opening batsman Tamim Iqbal to replace Mustafizur in the Asia Cup squad. Tamim was absent from the original squad as he took leave because for the birth of his first child.

Bangladesh will be hoping for Rahman to recover quickly and be fit to play for the ICC World T20 in India.
