India Vs Bangladesh: Post Mortem

( 1590 views )
This is the good bit about the format if you are a neutral cricket follower, this is the worst bit about the format if you are an Indian cricket fan. One bad performance, and you are suddenly staring at the exit door.

India were supposed to guard against

1) A collapse, since it is always their batting which covers up for the bowling. Last night, the bowling was left with too much to do on a pitch that was easing out .

2) A less than 250 score if they bat first, since Bangladesh have shown the potential to chase anything between 220 to 250 in the big games they have won against Test grade opponents. 191 wasn't going to be enough.

3) Losing too many wickets too early. Each of Bangladesh's big conquests have been
marked by bringing the opposition down to around 80 for 4 or 100 for 5. When India lost Dravid, they were at 72 for 4 and looking skywards hoping to find someone to pull them out of the hole they had fallen into.

And to round all that up, Dravid seemed to have read the pitch wrong and chosen to bat when it was the worst possible time to. The bowlers - projected to concede 240 - did not bowl too much better than their potential, while the batsmen - projected to have a potential score of 260 - played well below theirs. Tough to come back from a situation like that.
