Okay! We are ready for the second innings to begin. 249 is enough runs to play with for the bowlers. Smith and Baz (McCullum) are ready for their show. Can GUJ pull off an incredible win?
Records broken thus far in this game:
248 is second highest team total in T20 League. Highest ever stand in T20s.
The 229-run stand between Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers is the highest ever stand in T20s.
AB de Villiers recorded the fifth fastest century in the history of T20 League.
AB de Villiers, with 12 sixes, has hit the most number of sixes in an innings this season.
Virat Kohli is the only player to score three hundreds in a season.
Teenage is overrated, so is philosophy, but what we saw today was an exaggerated avatar of our fantasies. A mammoth 229-run stand off just 98 balls between Kohli and de Villiers pushed BLR's total into spheres of insanity. Gayle's another single digit score had disappointed early on, then walked de Villiers and reiterated the fact that he not only owns directions, he exploits them too. Kohli started off playing the tinfoil for AB, but once the latter blazed past his ton, Kohli took the mace in his hand and made Gujarat's bowling bleed. The roofs were breached, Chinnaswamy crowd earned sore throats and we had sore fingers typing it all for you. Can McCullum, Smith, Finch and Co. chase this down? The pitch's certainly up for it, so are the short boundaries, but do GUJ have the required moral fuel? Join us for the chase!
"I actually didn't feel too good in the beginning. It was slow. Always a pleasure batting with him (Kohli). He's looking much fitter than me. My secret is very very simple. My wife came here to watch me today (smiles). Jaddu actually bowled well, but the other spinners missed their marks," AB de Villiers
"It's always a pleasure batting with AB. Second double-hundred partnership. He got 133 there, he got 129 here. He gave me a lot of confidence. I started off slowly, but he just took over. I did not think about the hundred, but when I hit Shivil for three sixes, there was hope. AB asked me if I was thinking about the hundred, I said, no just keep quiet, I don't want to hear it (smiles). I wanted to play the anchor initially and then changed gears. Hopefully we will bowl well and come out on top," Virat Kohli.
Let's hear from the superstars now!
19.6 -
P Kumar to Watson, out Caught by D Karthik!! Edged and taken! So PK has had everything in this match. Bowled a maiden, got thrashed and now has two-in-two. Even Shane Watson sports a smile. Well, he can afford to because BLR have registered the second highest team total in the history of T20 League. Slower delivery outside off stump, oh looks like Watson is batting with someone else's bat. That is surely not his normal willow. Swung hard and only managed to outside-edge it to the keeper. Watson c D Karthik b P Kumar 0(1)
P Kumar to Watson, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!
Shane Watson, right handed bat, comes to the crease
19.5 -
P Kumar to Kohli, out Caught by Dwayne Bravo!! Oh! We have a wicket here! Needed a bit of brilliance to end this stand and Bravo has pulled off a lovely catch. No emotions from the Gujarat though. They know that the damage has been done by Kohli. What a knock. Whadaa player! Fullish delivery outside off stump, Kohli walks across and sweeps, hits it in the air and Bravo times his jump to perfection at backward square leg to take it above his head. Great round of applause from the crowd as Kohli walks back with his bat raised. Kohli c Dwayne Bravo b P Kumar 109(55) [4s-5 6s-8]
P Kumar to Kohli, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!
19.4 -
P Kumar to Kohli, SIX, now what sort of a ball was that? Kohli had to wait ages for that one to come. The slower ball bumper, came so slowly and Kohli had a lot time to adjust because of the lack of pace, he smashes it with a pull over square leg
19.3 -
P Kumar to Kohli, SIX, he did not have a T20 hundred before the start of the season, but he has scored three now. First player to record three hundreds in a season. Friendly full toss from PK, Kohli smashes it straight down the ground and into the sightscreen. Takes the helmet off, looks at the sky, swings his bat and roars like a lion. Well done sir!
19.2 -
P Kumar to Kohli, 2 runs, Kohli walks towards the bowler and drills this low full toss to long-on, de Villiers races back for the second
The crowd goes "Kohli, Kohli" as he gets ready to face. Need five runs to get to this third hundred of the season
19.1 -
P Kumar to de Villiers, 1 run, BREAKING! AB de Villiers has missed out on a full toss. How often does that happen? Mistimes the slog along the ground to deep mid-wicket
Praveen Kumar [3.0-1-30-0] is back into the attack
18.6 -
Shivil to Kohli, 2 runs, there you go! Not full enough for the batsman to get under the ball, hence a gentle tuck to deep mid-wicket, good enough for two
18.5 -
Shivil to Kohli, SIX, no! Shivil is not learning his lessons! Another full ball and again he disappears for six. Full and in the slot, Kohli loft-drives this hard over long-off. He doesn't want to show his emotions, but he is really enjoying this from inside. Into the 90s now
18.4 -
Shivil to Kohli, SIX, who's going to stop this bleeding? It is common sense for any bowler that you cannot afford to bowl full ball to set batsman. This is easily lofted over long-off. Boy! What entertainment for the crowd
18.3 -
Shivil to Kohli, SIX, change of angle for Shivil, but it doesn't work. Second double-hundred partnership for the duo in T20 League history! Shivil tries the yorker, Kohli slogs it hard over long-on
18.2 -
Shivil to Kohli, FOUR, Kohli had to reach out to meet this ball, but somehow has managed to time it so well. How did he do it? Only he will know! Shivil bowled wide outside off stump, but was not spared, four over extra-cover
18.1 -
Shivil to Kohli, SIX, Kohli is not too far from de Villiers as well! Shortish from Shivil, Kohli camps on the back foot and with a strong bottom hand grip muscles this flat over long-off
Shivil Kaushik [2.0-0-20-0] is back into the attack
17.6 -
Dwayne Bravo to de Villiers, SIX, ohhhh this is huuuggeee! Another slower ball attempted, but de Villiers has picked it. Smashes this over long-on and moves to 128 off just 51 balls
17.5 -
Dwayne Bravo to de Villiers, SIX, my word! This is insane stuff from de Villiers! Slower delivery outside off stump, de Villiers delays his assault as Bravo took pace off the ball and managed to time it well enough to deep extra-cover
17.5 -
Dwayne Bravo to de Villiers, no ball, FOUR, oopsy! Bravo fails to control the slower delivery and bowls a waist-high full toss down the leg-side, called a no-ball and the next one will be a free-hit now, de Villiers helps it away past the man at short fine leg
17.4 -
Dwayne Bravo to Kohli, 1 run, slower ball low full toss, Kohli was almost beaten for pace, managed to hit it to deep mid-wicket
17.3 -
Dwayne Bravo to Kohli, 2 runs, change of pace, Kohli mistimes the drive to deep extra-cover, came off the bottom of the bat
17.2 -
Dwayne Bravo to Kohli, SIX, and Kohli does it even better this time. He goes over the rope! Once again a poor delivery from Bravo, can't bowl full and outside off stump to set batsmen, Kohli lofts it flat over extra-cover
17.1 -
Dwayne Bravo to Kohli, FOUR, pure power there from Kohli. What a shot! Full and outside off stump, Kohli throws everything at it, but makes sure that he doesn't lose his shape. Brilliantly lofted, rather thrashed over cover for a one-bounce four
Dwayne Bravo [2.0-0-16-0] is back into the attack
16.6 -
Jadeja to de Villiers, SIX, and now he goes the other side of the pitch. Jadeja is not willing to flight the ball and he continues to disappear. Waits nicely in the crease and slogs it away over wide long-on
16.5 -
Jadeja to de Villiers, SIX, full and in the slot, de Villiers goes off-side and goes over cover, just had enough legs to clear the fence there
16.4 -
Jadeja to Kohli, 1 run, flatter and on the leg stump, Kohli punches it to cover
16.3 -
Jadeja to de Villiers, byes, 1 run, very full and just outside off stump, de Villiers tries to slog and fails to make contact, DK fails to stop the ball and concedes a bye
16.2 -
Jadeja to de Villiers, no run, flatter delivery outside off stump, de Villiers tries to cut and misses
16.1 -
Jadeja to de Villiers, no run, flighted delivery outside off stump, de Villiers drives and misses
Ravindra Jadeja [3.0-0-21-0] is back into the attack
15.6 -
P Kumar to de Villiers, 1 run, take a bow AB de Villiers. This is now his fastest hundred in the T20 League. Is there anything that this man can't do? He's not human! He's a computer or something even better! The amazing thing is he does them so easily. de Villiers mistimes the drive towards cover and gets to the milestone. Big roar from the crowd. Kohli walks and pats ABdV
15.5 -
P Kumar to de Villiers, SIX, in the airrrrrrr, again a mistime from de Villiers, but's gone all the way. ABdV is on 99 now. Low full toss, de Villiers goes back on across, gets into a great position and swings really hard so that it went all the way even though the connection wasn't great
15.4 -
P Kumar to de Villiers, FOUR, wowwww! Even Kohli didn't move after seeing that ball race off de Villiers's bat. I say even Kohli didnt move because he is the non-striker and the non-striker generally sets off for a run as soon as the contact is made by the batsman. What timing from de Villiers! Long-on was there, but this drive rocketed past him
15.3 -
P Kumar to de Villiers, SIX, he's mistimed this, but this is that kind of a ground! Even mishits clear the boundary quite comfortably as this one has done! PK bowls short and pays the penalty, muscled all the away over mid-wicket with a pull
15.2 -
P Kumar to de Villiers, SIX, oh that has gone over the roof! AB de Villiers watched it all the way and enjoyed it thoroughly! Even captain Kohli sports a big smile on his face. New balls please! Low full toss, de Villiers gets down low after walking across the stumps and helps it away from the middle of the bat. Gee, how good is that willow in his hands? How did it go that far, for he did not try to hit it very hard
15.1 -
P Kumar to de Villiers, no run, de Villiers goes leg-side and drives to extra-cover
Praveen Kumar [2.0-1-7-0] is back into the attack
Time-out time! BLR are well on course for a massive score. But how much is enough for them? Five overs left and 50 runs are a minimum. So that makes it around 185. Look at the opposition now. Who have GUJ got? Baz, Smith, Finch in store. Will it be sufficient? Mind you, there is rain threat as well. Shortened game will not aid BLR! Fingers crossed
14.6 -
Tambe to de Villiers, 1 run, driven down to long-off
14.5 -
Tambe to de Villiers, FOUR, wow! Incredible hit! He knew third man was inside the ring, hence opened the face of the bat at the last moment and hit it deliberately in the air over backward point. Great thinking from de Villiers. As soon as he saw some width on offer, he had the presence of mind to quickly think about the vacant third man region instead of going hard at the ball
14.4 -
Tambe to de Villiers, SIX, that's not a big hit but this ground is small. And they travel here as well. Flighted delivery on the stumps, de Villiers goes down on one knee and slog-sweeps it over wide long-on
14.3 -
Tambe to Kohli, 1 run, lovely wrists from Kohli as he makes room and drives inside-out to long-off
14.2 -
Tambe to de Villiers, 1 run, flighted delivery on the leg stump, de Villiers drives it to long-on
14.1 -
Tambe to Kohli, 1 run, fifth fifty of the season for Virat 'Champion' Kohli. Flighted delivery on the stumps, Kohli drives it along the ground to long-on and gets to the milestone. Gets a good round of applause from the crowd and the dressing room
Pravin Tambe [1.0-0-11-0] is back into the attack
13.6 -
Dwayne Bravo to Kohli, 1 run, Bravo is livid with the fielder! Firstly, must say that it was a bad ball and the bowler was lucky not to have leaked a four. Kohli cut it straight to backward point, the fielder had a needless shy at the bowler's end and it resulted in an overthrow
13.5 -
Dwayne Bravo to Kohli, 2 runs, overpitched and on the stumps, Kohli drives it to long on, Finch tidies up in the deep
13.4 -
Dwayne Bravo to de Villiers, 1 run, the ultimate pair bring up another century stand. Please bowlers, please, pull up your socks and do justice to the effort that these two put in for the team. Slower ball low full toss, de Villiers was foxed by the lack of pace, but manages to drag it towards mid-wicket
Now back over the wicket to AB
13.3 -
Dwayne Bravo to Kohli, 1 run, the keeper is up to the stumps but interestingly Bravo bangs it short, Kohli mistimes the pull through mid-wicket
13.2 -
Dwayne Bravo to de Villiers, 1 run, oh that was in the slot to be put away, de Villiers swung a little early and toe-ended the slog along the ground to deep mid-wicket
DJ goes round the wicket. Could be a good ploy this to AB. However, he's got to nail the yorkers at the batsman's toes
13.1 -
Dwayne Bravo to Kohli, 1 run, lot of width on offer outside off stump, easily guided to third man to resume the ABdV show
Dwayne Bravo [1.0-0-9-0] is back into the attack
12.6 -
Jadeja to de Villiers, no run, de Villiers toe-ends the slap and looks at the bottom of the bat immediately. He reckons he missed a boundary there. Calm down sir, calm down! More to come!
12.5 -
Jadeja to de Villiers, SIX, de Villiers hit the previous ball over cover and now he goes on the other-side with a slog-sweep over mid-wicket. Again not convinced that it came off the meat of the bat, but the power, the bat swing, the bat itself is very good from the master
12.4 -
Jadeja to de Villiers, FOUR, now that was not from the middle the bat, not a great sound from the bat as it made contact with the ball, yet, the class that he is, AB de Villiers manages to loft-drive this full delivery over cover for four
12.3 -
Jadeja to de Villiers, no run, round-armish flatter delivery on the off stump, defended to cover
12.2 -
Jadeja to Kohli, 1 run, slower through the air and fuller in length as well, Kohli nudges it towards mid-on with soft hands
12.1 -
Jadeja to de Villiers, 1 run, short enough for de Villiers to hang back and punch to long-off
11.6 -
D Kulkarni to de Villiers, 1 run, leg stump line, worked away to deep mid-wicket and he keeps strike
11.5 -
D Kulkarni to de Villiers, FOUR, that discussion hasn't worked! I am sure Baz did not ask Kulkarni to bowl short and wide, de Villiers rocks back, waits and cuts fiercely, sweeper cover was stationed but he had no chance. A gentle raise of the bat from ABdV to acknowledge the applause for his fifty
Big discussion between Baz and his bowler.
11.4 -
D Kulkarni to de Villiers, FOUR, now this is pure class! Don't take your eyes off this one folks! DK was up to the stumps to prevent de Villiers from advancing down the pitch, Kulkarni bowls short of a length on the leg stump, de Villiers was actually cramped for room a bit on the pull, looked a bit hurried as well, but he somehow manages to time it well enough to split deep mid-wicket and long-on to perfection
11.3 -
D Kulkarni to de Villiers, SIX, he's raced to 43 off 23 balls now. The idea was right from Kulkarni, to take pace off the ball, but he bowled it too short, de Villiers was on the charge and had no problems in smashing this pull over the mid-wicket fence
11.2 -
D Kulkarni to Kohli, 1 run, deft from Kohli this time after brute power last ball. Opens the face of the bat and dabs to the left of backward point, who makes a good stop
11.1 -
D Kulkarni to Kohli, SIX, wow! Just wow! How authoritative was that? Why on earth would you bowl length and that too to someone named Virat Kohli! Kulkarni tried to shorten his length on seeing Kohli advance, but he couldn't make proper adjustment, went as a length ball in the slot, which was muscled all the way over long-on
Dhawal Kulkarni [2.0-0-11-1] is back into the attack
It is drizzling in parts of Bangalore. Pretty cloudy, hope the rain gods are kind on us!
10.6 -
Jadeja to de Villiers, no run, de Villiers gives the charge, Jadeja shortens the length and keeps the South African superstar calm
10.5 -
Jadeja to Kohli, 1 run, Kohli backs away and exposes all three sticks, Jadeja tries to follow him, but length is short, Kohli drives hard off the back foot wide of long-off, de Villiers was keen for the second but a loud cry from Kohli was good enough to stop him
10.4 -

9.1 -
Dwayne Smith to Kohli, 2 runs, pats this length delivery towards point, overthrow at the bowler's end allows an extra run as well. There was a direct hit but Kohli was well in so the umpire did not waste any time by going upstairs
Dwayne Smith, right-arm medium, comes into the attack
8.6 -
Jadeja to de Villiers, no run, big appeal but the umpire shakes his head, it was a flatter delivery. de Villiers wanted sweep across the line but missed. The ball might have slid down the leg-side or was he struck outside off?
8.5 -
Jadeja to Kohli, 1 run, shortish delivery, Kohli hops back in the crease and then tucks it behind square on the on-side for a single
8.4 -
Jadeja to Kohli, 2 runs, these two are quick, very quick. Kohli turns this one to mid-wicket, the fielder is fairly deep so Jadeja goes himself, the batters saw the opportunity and completed two runs. de Villiers had to make his ground with a dive though
8.3 -
Jadeja to de Villiers, 1 run, de Villiers drives this one off the front foot to sweeper cover for a single
8.2 -

8.1 -
Jadeja to de Villiers, no run, turned this one away from de Villiers and he was beaten on the drive, Karthik dislodged the bails but just not in time
Third umpire in action. Jadeja is the bowler. de Villiers's the batter. Fair delivery, but de Villiers is too acrobatic, he has got his back leg in
Ravindra Jadeja, left-arm orthodox, comes into the attack
Time-out in place. Is there a bad pitch for de Villiers? We saw Gayle was struggling, Kohli has not been able to find his timing right and here he is, lapping them over fine leg, thrashing over extra cover. The pitch behaves to de Villiers's command for sure. Or does he hypnotize them?
7.6 -

De Villiers: "A lot of things have played a role today. We were very calm as a team. I walked out almost feeling careless, not afraid to lose wickets, but still play good cricket shots. We timed our innings and the partnership really well. I hate facing dot balls in T20 cricket. Jaddu bowled well, got to give him credit. I was thinking about playing the right shot at the right time and it worked for us tonight. I faced too many dot balls (laughs, when asked if that was his best innings in T20s)."
AB de Villiers is the Man of the Match
Kohli: "I think everything went very well according to plans. It can be disheartening when you lose 9 of the 11 tosses. There was a good feeling in the dressing room, our preparation was good. We don't want to push ourselves too much. We know we are a good batting unit. Today was just one of those days we just do what we know best. We played smart cricket. At the halfway mark, we just gave the guys 170 runs to defend, because that will help our net run-rate. I love the situation that we are in. Everyday is a new challenge."
If this was a boxing bout, the referee would have called it off after the first half itself. But it wasn't. And GUJ had to endure a complete annihilation. A day which won't be forgotten soon by any of the stakeholders involved. The action isn't done though with the next match just around the corner. Mind you, we still have the presentations to come. We'll update this page as soon as they are.
McCullum: "We were pretty happy to bowl first. We started well, but we had two guys, world-class players, who played two of the greatest innings in T20 history together. It's frustrating from our point of view, but at the same time it was incredible to watch as a fan. We tried different plans, but when someone plays like that, it's hard to stop. We have to get back to winning ways and make the play-offs. We also need to go to the play-offs with a lot of confidence. It was one team that turned up today and played great cricket. Hopefully we'll be better in the next game."
Once BLR ended up with a gargantuan total, it was always going to be an uphill task for GUJ. In an attempt to play a flurry of shots, GUJ lost their way and hurtled towards a massive defeat. Chris Jordan and Chahal shared seven spoils between them.
In fact, on a slow track, de Villiers picked the length early, he seemed to be waiting, in near-perfect position, with fluid balance, with a kind of bored look on his face, for the next ball to be bowled. Kohli, too, played a superlative knock and he also became the first player to compose three hundreds in a single T20 League season.
AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli left their thumbprints on the big stage with sparkling hundreds and ensured a resounding victory for BLR. When de Villiers walked out to the crease with an energetic gait, it gave an inkling that he was about to lift the doom and gloom of Bangalore's hazy weather with his magnificence. He soon kindled sparks of life into BLR's disappointing T20 League 2016 season and along with Kohli, smashed the opposition to pieces.

Kohli pumps his fist and the entire dug-out is very happy. Everyone congratulate ABdV for his stupendous knock. Gayle has a bit of fun with Watson on the sidelines.
