The players are back out under clear blue skies. Abbott, on his comeback, has the ball to bowl the patented fullish length...Two slips in place

Quite a compensation this for Bloemfontein's rainy run-fest. Sunny skies to begin with and then a pitch which progressively got tougher to score on, thus sparing us another few hours of ball chasing. Amla was undone early by Topley who added another 3 wickets to finish with impressive figures of 4/50. du Plessis and de Villiers caged their naturally aggressive instincts to steer the total to safer shores. Though none of them could stay the course resulting in a late singlathon but they had done enough to pep up South Africa's total to something their bowlers could think of defending on a pitch not entirely a road. Join us in a few minutes for the chase

Kyle Abbott 7(7) Behardien 23(26) Topley 9-1-50-4

49.6 - Topley to Kyle Abbott, 1 run, low full toss outside off and Abbott thrashes it to long-off. A single takes South Africa to a competitive 262

Last ball...

49.5 - Topley to Behardien, 1 run, full and wide, Behardien throws his hands at it and somehow forces it to third man

49.5 - Topley to Behardien, wide, that was way down leg, Behardien had shuffled outside off to swing it out over fine leg, doesn't connect and called a wide

49.4 - Topley to Kyle Abbott, 1 run, full, robbed of pace and wide of off, Abbott reaches for it and pat it out to deep extra cover

49.3 - Topley to Behardien, 1 run, gets across his stumps and flashes this fuller length delivery through cover

49.2 - Topley to Behardien, no run, bowls it very flat and very full with an angle across, Behardien leans in to drive but is not quite upto the ball. Was well outside the tramline but Behardien's shuffle across made it easy for the umpire

49.1 - Topley to Kyle Abbott, 1 run, fires it in on off, Abbott clears his front leg and dug it out to mid-on with a full-fledged arm awing

Five-for hunter Topley to bowl the last over

Over: 49 0 RSA 256/7
Kyle Abbott 4(4) Behardien 21(23) Stokes 9-0-54-2

48.6 - Stokes to Kyle Abbott, 1 run, tough to decide what was more mediocre. Knee-high full toss, Abbott threw his hands at it only to hit it straight to extra cover

48.5 - Stokes to Behardien, 1 run, fires in the yorker, Behardien gets his bat down just in time and digs it out to mid-wicket. The bowler and Kyle Abbott almost collided there but the latter made it back before Stokes got to the ball

48.4 - Stokes to Behardien, FOUR, yes, here it comes. Was only coming. Stokes pitches this up, Behardien kneels and lofts it over extra cover for a much needed boundary

48.3 - Stokes to Kyle Abbott, 1 run, and South Africa get to that 250 mark. Full ball on middle, Abbott shuffles across and wrists it to mid-on

48.2 - Stokes to Behardien, 1 run, low dipping full toss and Behardien dribes it with hard hands, mistimed to sweeper cover

Ben Stokes [8.0-0-45-2] is back into the attack

Kyle Abbott 1(1) Behardien 15(20) Topley 8-1-44-4

47.6 - Topley to Kyle Abbott, 1 run, meets this length ball with a widened stance and a straight bat to push the ball to long-off

Kyle Abbott, right handed bat, comes to the crease

47.3 - Topley to Rabada, out Caught by Eoin Morgan!! Topley's good day just got better with his fourth wicket. On a length and armed with some width, Rabada RSVP'd to the invitation, threw his hands at the ball but could only manage an outside edge that was snaffled reverse-cupped by a backpedaling backward point. Slow ball and an even slower pitch defeating him there. Rabada c Eoin Morgan b Topley 12(10) [4s-1]

Topley to Rabada, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

46.3 - Willey to Rabada, 1 run, looks to go over with a booming and uppish drive, an outside edge is eked out that runs to third man

Lovely bowling from England...no boundaries after the 42nd over

45.4 - Topley to Behardien, no run, walks down the pitch and push-drives this ball to cover

45.3 - Topley to Behardien, no run, another full toss, a hat-trick of them and Behardien pushes it tamely into the off-side. Can totally see three sixes with de Villiers still alive

45.2 - Topley to Rabada, 1 run, slides deep in his crease, lets this full ball come to him and closes the bat face at the last moment to clip it down to fine leg

45.1 - Topley to Behardien, 1 run, dishes out a low outswinging full toss and Behardien extends his arms to pat it to deep extra cover

Rossouw 11(11) Behardien 6(7) Topley 6-1-33-3

43.6 - Topley to Rossouw, out Caught by Buttler!! Lovely one-handed dive from Buttler to his right to cut this off. Actually caught it and England have gone up for the review. Fair delivery, the ball slung in as Rossouw walked down the pitch to flick it, eked out an inside edge perhaps? UltraEdge replays are confusing. There's mini-spike but tough to say whether the bat-ball or the bat-ground impact led to that. No issues with the catch which seemed to have been completed cleanly. Long delay and Rossouw has been sent back with a reversed decision. Third umpire reckoned there was some wood on that and that's all. The end. Rossouw c Buttler b Topley 11(11) [4s-2]

Topley to Rossouw, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

43.5 - Topley to Behardien, 1 run, fullish with an angle across, Behardien slides a touch toward his leg-stump and then leans across to get behind this clip to long-on

43.4 - Topley to Rossouw, 1 run, full and into the pads, Rossouw spindles across as he clips this ball to backward square leg

43.3 - Topley to Rossouw, no run, that was intended to see the stands down the ground but there wasn't any pace on that ball. Inside edge rockets into Rossouw's pad as he aborts even the idea of a single

43.2 - Topley to Rossouw, no run, fullish on off, Rossouw holds his bat close to his pad and belatedly opens the blade. No single stolen as backward point hurries the throw back in

43.1 - Topley to Behardien, 1 run, just back of a length outside off, Behardien using a near-horizontal bat to dab-push the ball past a diving backward point

Over: 43 0 1 RSA 222/5
Behardien 4(5) Rossouw 10(7) Stokes 8-0-45-2

42.6 - Stokes to Behardien, 1 run, right upto the batsman but with some width, allows Behardien to open the bat face very late and dab the ball square where the third man sprints across to tidy up

42.5 - Stokes to Rossouw, 1 run, fullish length is persisted with. Stays back and pushes the ball with intentful hard hands to mid-off

42.4 - Stokes to Behardien, 1 run, jumps back in his crease and uses his wrists to meet the ball mid-air for a single to mid-wicket

42.3 - Stokes to Rossouw, 1 run, stays firm inside his crease and nudges the ball to mid-on using dough-soft hands for a quick single

42.2 - Stokes to Behardien, 1 run, gets high inside his crease and tucks this short of length delivery to square leg

42.1 - Stokes to Behardien, no run, fullish ball on middle, Behardien was bending forward and ends up wristing the ball back to Stokes

42.1 - Stokes to Behardien, wide, yorker length too far outside off, brushes the tramline as Behardien holds his bat well inside the line

Over: 42 0 RSA 216/5
Rossouw 8(5) Behardien 1(1) Topley 5-1-30-2

41.6 - Topley to Rossouw, FOUR, Behardien hopped in the air with legs widened to let that ball go through to the fences. Full ball on the pads, Rossouw leans into it with a straight bat and caresses it through

41.5 - Topley to Rossouw, no run, Rossouw was shouting "wait, wait" all the time but Behardien was too eager. Had to hurry back as mid-on cleaned up this wristy push and rifled the throw back. No direct hit and Behardien just made it back in

41.4 - Topley to Rossouw, no run, runs it down towards third man and tries to steal a single. Not to be as backward point cleans it up

41.4 - Topley to Rossouw, wide, splayed down leg, Rossouw misses on the tickle

41.3 - Topley to Rossouw, FOUR, that was gorgeous. Skipped out of the pitch and bulletted the ball away through mid-off. High bat, right balance, timing and all that

41.2 - Topley to Behardien, 1 run, fullish outside off, Behardien stays put and pats it to mid-off who lets out a wide throw at the bowler's end to inhibit the quick run. Mid-wicket cleans up

Farhaan Behardien, right handed bat, comes to the crease

41.1 - Topley to Duminy, out Lbw!! With no reviews available, Duminy has to go. All disappointed with his head buried in the ground. Topley fires it in full and on the pads, Duminy misses the flick and is rapped on the pad. HawkEye shows it missing leg. Umpire thought otherwise and this for all the worldwide promotion of the DRS and its associated magnanimity. Duminy lbw b Topley 47(66) [4s-2]

40.5 - Stokes to Duminy, 1 run, short of length ball armoured with width, Duminy slaps the ball to the sweeper

Rilee Rossouw, left handed bat, comes to the crease

40.4 - Stokes to de Villiers, out Caught by Jordan!! Jordan's bucket hands have swallowed de Villiers. Fullish ball sees de Villiers throw his all on the clobber, swings his bat across the line but couldn't get it off the middle. Jordan has his shades on, runs back from mid-wicket and snaffles it with two hands braving the sun. A moment that is worth at least 40 runs. de Villiers c Jordan b Stokes 73(91) [4s-4 6s-1]

Stokes to de Villiers, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

40.3 - Stokes to de Villiers, leg byes, FOUR, splayed down leg, de Villiers falls on the flick and the ball runs to fine leg off de Villiers's right boot

40.2 - Stokes to de Villiers, 2 runs, back-bender zooming off the pitch, de Villiers takes it on and hooks it rather unconvincingly to the left of a sprinting deep mid-wicket

40.1 - Stokes to Duminy, 1 run, de Villiers wants it all. All the strike. Duminy eked out an inside edge to the vacant FSL, thought about a run and then got in the strides as he saw de Villiers almost half-way down the pitch. Stokes ran in to effect a run-out but we all know who's quicker between the ball, Stokes and de Villiers

39.6 - Jordan to de Villiers, SIX, he was waiting all afternoon for this. Short ball sitting up pretty, de Villiers was on the back foot, swung his arms across and hammered the ball over deep mid-wicket. Imparted this white ball wings and it flew away

39.5 - Jordan to de Villiers, no run, fires the ball into de Villiers who had made room to flick the ball. Swings in, beats de Villiers's wrists and makes its way through only to shave the leg-stump

39.4 - Jordan to de Villiers, 2 runs, goes full and de Villiers greets it with a front foot stride, bent knees and a flashy drive to deep extra cover

39.3 - Jordan to de Villiers, no run, this had de Villiers in two halves. Looked to cut a ball that nipped in viciously and made his way between the flashing blade and the shuffling torso

39.2 - Jordan to Duminy, 1 run, dropped to third man with an open blade for a very urgent single

39.1 - Jordan to Duminy, FOUR, that's the pull-reliever tablet. Has mistimed them all this afternoon but he walks down the pitch this time and pulls the pants off it to long-on

38.6 - Stokes to Duminy, 1 run, and Morgan compensates with a direct hit when de Villiers had his bat dragged well in. A mistimed pull to short-midwicket and straight to the fielder only to be ruined for a single by a hit-the-stumps urgency

38.5 - Stokes to de Villiers, 1 run, fullish ball this time and de Villiers pounces on this with a swinging drive that's hit straight to sweeper cover

38.4 - Stokes to de Villiers, 2 runs, that flick wasn't a wristy delicacy. It was brute force. Swung his arms and hammered the ball to backward square leg where a relay work helped by Rashid stops a boundary

38.3 - Stokes to Duminy, leg byes, 1 run, speared down the leg-side, Duminy half-turns to tickle, misses and the ball runs off the pads

38.2 - Stokes to Duminy, FOUR, here's Duminy's dancing shoes that's been taken out of the shabby cabinet. Skips out and swings through the line, gets it over the infield and it creams to the long-off fence

38.1 - Stokes to de Villiers, 1 run, short ball and here's a pull that's been connected. Swivels across but fails to place the pull wide of fine leg

37.6 - Jordan to Duminy, no run, thick outside edge and it's shelled by Buttler! This was short of length and angled away, Duminy was looking to run it down, managed an edge that flew to the left of Buttler who was late to react, went one-handed and gloved the ball away. Tough chance but Jordan wasn't unjustified in closing his eyes and mourning the drop

37.5 - Jordan to de Villiers, 1 run, fullish ball angled in, de Villiers slides in and turns the ball to fine leg

37.5 - Jordan to de Villiers, wide, back-of the-hand slower delivery down leg, de Villiers gets low to sweep-pull it but it goes under the bat

37.4 - Jordan to de Villiers, FOUR, fullish ball inviting de Villiers to go hammer and tongs. He does so with a dance down the track but a thick outside edge flies to third man

37.3 - Jordan to de Villiers, no run, this short of length ball was there to be pulled but it sticks in the pitch and de Villiers ekes out an inside-edge that might well have hurt his tummy

37.2 - Jordan to Duminy, leg byes, 1 run, and this time veering down to Duminy who misses to tickle it to fine leg, off the thigh pad

37.1 - Jordan to de Villiers, leg byes, 1 run, on a length and veering into de Villiers who missed this tuck and the ball rolled off the thigh pad

It pitched in-line with leg stump, de Kock missed the flick to that fuller delivery, played across the line and was rapped on the pads. Height wasn't an issue and it was going onto hit the stumps. Just about pitched in-line, but that will do. Stokes was confident and so was Dharmasena. du Plessis spoke to de Kock and after that discussion, went for the review. 3.5 - Willey to de Kock, no run, full outside off, late shape away, de Kock is nearly squared up, the ball rolls off a thick outer half to cover

3.4 - Willey to de Kock, no run, very full outside off, de Kock gets forward and drives it back to Willey, who stops it

2.3 - Topley to du Plessis, no run, good length outside off, pushed to cover, wants a quick single, but it is straight to the fielder

Faf du Plessis, right handed bat, comes to the crease

2.2 - Topley to Amla, out Bowled!! What a ball and Amla is knocked over. Pitches full around middle, threatened to shape in but didn't, kept going away with the angle, Amla didn't come fully forward, was late in attempting the drive, the ball brushed the back pad and then flicked the off stump. Amla walks back with a sorry look on his face. Topley deserved that wicket, for he kept the pressure on Amla in the opening over. Amla b Topley 4(8) [4s-1]

1.4 - Willey to de Kock, no run, now goes right through de Kock. This came back in and beat de Kock's bat attempt at a drive. Went through to the keeper. Airy fairy from de Kock and Willey has his hands on his head

1.3 - Willey to de Kock, no run, big shout for caught behind. But the umpire shakes his head. Another full outswinger outside off, de Kock went hard on the drive, the bat hit the ground and that's the sound. UltraEdge showed no deviation. England had a mini conflab but decided aginst the review

0.4 - Topley to Amla, no run, pitches around leg, Amla stumbles forward to defend cautiously to cover. Good start by Topley

0.3 - Topley to Amla, no run, big shout for lbw! But a clear inside edge onto the pad. Dharmasena got that right. It swung in late and if not for a thin edge onto pad on the flick, Amla would've been walking back, everything going for it. That's it from Port Elizabeth. The brand of cricket today that allowed us to breathe - slow-paced but bordering on boring at times too. The next match, which could be the final nail in the coffin, is to be staged at SuperSport Park, Centurion on 9th February. Do join us for that too. Till then it's cheers and ta-ta from Pratyush on behalf of Venkatesh and Srivathsa.

Hales is the Man of the Match: "It was a nice delivery to get on 99. The delivery you dream - on the hips to get a single to fine leg. It was a slightly different wicket to what we have played on this summer. We knew that if we took it deep, we'd get over the line. Test series was difficult. It's a tough place to come and open the batting."

Morgan: "Was clinical in completely different conditions and that's what impressed me today. Wicket made things very competitive and later Buttler took the game away. 262 wasn't a job done. You don't know the wicket unless you have batted on it. The target was below par. I wanted to bowl Rashid early to get AB out. Captain is a prized scalp, especially AB. We have come here and adapted to a wicket that we haven't played on for a very long time. Root and Hales were amazing and Buttler at the end was top-class."

de Villiers: "Yeah, we were 20 short. I didn't play as well as I would have liked. 290-300 would have been ideal. I think JP got an unlucky one there, Rilee also. 260 odd was still competitive and England played really well, outthought us. Just before the 48th over, I thought we were in the game. Buttler is in very good form and he took it away. I was happy for the pitch to get a little bit slower than it should have. No complaints there. We love playing at Wanderers but we have to work hard to take it to the final decider. We will take it one game at a time and try to win the next one."

Presentations follow..

This innings was like a snoozing hippo, snoring and trudging on a slowish pitch until Buttler arrived, woke him up and raced away with the match. A target of 263 wasn't par on this pitch. It felt more than enough. Slow, turning and keeping low and the old England would have surrendered to subcontinental demons. Not this new England who're driven by hunger and propelled by Trevor Bayliss. After the early wicket of Roy, Hales fought hard for his runs, compiling them one by one whilst braving Abbott's three wickets only to fall one short of his ton. Moeen later joined hands with Buttler to awaken the match but nearly putting this series to sleep. Lead 2-0 now and South Africa just look short. Of skills and magic to win a game at the moment.

46.2 - M Morkel to Moeen Ali, FOUR, and there's the win. England win by 5 wickets. Length ball, Moeen was in the mood, swung his bat across the line and pierced the winning boundary through mid-wicket

46.1 - M Morkel to Moeen Ali, FOUR, and this aggressive bug had bitten Moeen too. Clears his front leg and swings the ball towards long-on, couple of bounces and into the ropes

45.4 - Tahir to Buttler, SIX, and another! Somehow saw this coming. Tahir is having a horror day and Buttler just made it nightmarish. Connects the slog-sweeps and launches the projectile over deep mid-wicket

43.5 - Kyle Abbott to Buttler, FOUR, slower delivery dragged down, sat up to be hit and Buttler pounces with a pull through square leg

43.4 - Kyle Abbott to Buttler, FOUR, outside edge and it evades the keeper behind. This ball was a peach. Tails in, pitches and then nips away to catch the outside edge. Buttler was glued to the crease as he poked at the ball and hence the edge

The googly from Tahir, Eoin Morgan didn't spot that, pushed out and got a thick edge, QDK had little time to react and I'm not sure on first glance whether he got a glove or not, goes to ground and a frustrating expression from QDK after the catch is put down

Jason Roy 14(13) Hales 6(5) Kyle Abbott 2-0-15-1

2.6 - Kyle Abbott to Jason Roy, out Bowled!! Cleaned up. That is a perfect comeback by Kyle Abbott. Right through the big gap between bat and pad. It hit the seam and nipped back in, Jason Roy had left a gap big enough for a truck to go through, missed the forward defence and the ball knocked out leg stump. Kyle Abbott is known to get seam movement and that is a good comeback after being hit for two fours. South Africa needed that. Jason Roy b Kyle Abbott 14(13) [4s-3]

Kyle Abbott to Jason Roy, THAT'S OUT!! Bowled!!

2.5 - Kyle Abbott to Jason Roy, FOUR, how did that go for four? It was mistimed by Jason Roy, went hard on the cover drive, the ball dribbled off the thick inside half, rolled wide of the diving mid-on. AB sprinted and dived head-first, trying to prevent the boundary, but the ball had too much on it and ran away

2.4 - Kyle Abbott to Jason Roy, 2 runs, nips back in, Jason Roy gets forward to defend and the thick inside edge runs away to deep backward square leg, two they take

2.3 - Kyle Abbott to Jason Roy, FOUR, fabulous shot from Jason Roy. What use of the pace. It was a back of a length delivery outside off, cramped Jason Roy for room, but he arched back and steered that well, wide of backward point. Third man had no chance, moving to his right. The timing was superb on that. The wrists did all the work there, he is a fine timer of the cricket ball, isn't he?

2.2 - Kyle Abbott to Hales, 1 run, length ball outside off, chopped to the left of backward point, for a single

2.1 - Kyle Abbott to Hales, no run, pitched up outside off, Hales gets forward and defends solidly to cover. Nice stride forward to meet that ball

Jason Roy 4(9) Hales 5(3) Rabada 1-0-5-0

1.6 - Rabada to Jason Roy, no run, fullish outside off, punched with a straight bat back to the bowler

1.5 - Rabada to Jason Roy, no run, this doesn't come back in, just holds its line outside off, left alone

1.4 - Rabada to Jason Roy, no run, hint of shape back in, jagged back sharply, but Jason Roy covered his off stump and left that alone

1.3 - Rabada to Hales, 1 run, pitched up outside off, Hales gets forward and drives wide of mid-off. AB releases quickly and hits direct at the non-striker's end but Hales is well home

1.2 - Rabada to Hales, no run, goes for an encore. But this ball bounces and beats the cut. More oomph from Rabada as he bent his back and the crowd love that. Egg him on. It was too close to cut and that's why Hales was beaten

1.1 - Rabada to Hales, FOUR, cracking cut to begin the innings by Hales. It was fraction short outside off, Hales got on top of the bounce and flashed it past backward point. Third man had no chance. That's a positive blow by Hales and he is off the mark in grand style

Kagiso Rabada, right-arm fast, comes into the attack

Jason Roy 4(6) Hales 0(0) Kyle Abbott 1-0-4-0

0.6 - Kyle Abbott to Jason Roy, FOUR, opens the account with an unintended boundary. Short of a length, Roy goes for the back foot punch, ekes out an outside edge that flies to the third man fence

0.5 - Kyle Abbott to Jason Roy, no run, pitched up on middle, Roy gets forward and defends it with a straight bat

0.4 - Kyle Abbott to Jason Roy, no run, dropped! This fullish ball gets stuck in the pitch and Roy drives it uppishly, just to the left of Kyle Abbott who uses two hands to pouch the ball but finger-tips it away. Tough on the followthrough. They either stick or they don't

0.3 - Kyle Abbott to Jason Roy, no run, fullish ball on off-stump sees Roy lean into a flowy push straight to mid-off

0.2 - Kyle Abbott to Jason Roy, no run, drags his length a touch back and gets it closer to the stumps, Roy lifts his bat and lets it go

0.1 - Kyle Abbott to Jason Roy, no run, fullish ball but way outside off, easy leave to the keeper

Jason Roy and Hales are at the crease. Jason Roy is on strike. Kyle Abbott will open the attack
