Earlier, after a lengthy delay due to incessant rain that resulted in a truncated game, Russell unfurled a flurry of shots to power KOL to a sizeable total. Robin Uthappa too gave a good account of himself.
On the back of crunching knocks by Chris Gayle, Mandeep Singh and Virat Kohli, BLR overcame their formidable foes in a thriller. Gayle gave them a fine start by landing meaty blows. Once Gayle was dismissed, Mandeep Singh took over by checking in a series of fine shots. However, in the nick of time, Andre Russell took the prized scalp of Kohli. But Mandeep just about held his nerve and showed great improvisation as the hosts crossed the finish line in the final over.
Great scenes out there. The BLR dug out is charged up. Skipper Kohli lets out a loud roar. Mandeep fist pumps his chest and the BLR players run onto the field to congratulate their hero. Gambhir is a dejected man.
