Debutant Mustafizur Rahman then took three wickets in 4 balls to derail South Africa's innings. Hashim Amla, JP Duminy and Quinton de Kock were his victims. Although wickets were tumbling at one end, Temba Bavuma was calm at the other end and along with Vernon Philander and Simon Harmer, managed to stitch some useful partnerships. In the process, he also registered his maiden Test fifty before being the last man to be dismissed. Mustafizur finished with 4 wickets, while Jubair Hossain bagged three. Although Mohammad Shahid did not get a wicket, he was exceptional with the ball and also had a few catches dropped.

When South Africa made 104 runs for the loss of Stiaan van Zyl in the morning session, many believed that they were on course to post a massive score having opted to bat first. However, Bangladesh fought hard after lunch and stunned the visitors. Mohammad Shahid bowled five consecutive maiden overs after lunch and built the pressure. Soon, both Dean Elgar and Faf du Plessis departed in quick succession, thereby missing their fifties by a whisker.

Elgar and du Plessis got out in the space of three balls which eventually ended a solid 78-run stand between them. Shakib and Taijul made it hard for the new batters and it took quite a while for the duo (Amla and Bavuma) to get going. With 2 wickets in the session, and that too the wickets of settled batsmen, the home team have made a good comeback. Tea, Day 1: Jubair Hossain, the leg-spinner, was asked to open the bowling straightaway after lunch. The youngster got some good turn and bounce off the surface while the pacers kept it tight at one end. Having lost only one wicket, the visitors have showed good technique in dealing with spinners. South African bowlers have done a relatively better job today by bowling stump-to-stump line. Despite overcast conditions, their bowlers didn't generate much swing with the pitch playing slow and low throughout. Bangladesh have done well by not losing too many wickets in what was a crucial session in the context of the game. The last recognized pair now have a task on their hands, as they look to take a sizeable lead. For South Africa, it's a simple equation - they need wickets, especially, these two (Shakib and Litton). Lunch, Day 3: Bangladesh were cautious in their approach in the first hour of play with a constant drizzle in the background. For the visitors, Harmer was the best bowler on show. He was extracting sharp turn and getting a bit of bounce, too. Rain though, played spoilsport as 25 overs were lost for the day. Day 3: Hello and a warm welcome to our ball-by-ball coverage of the Test match between South Africa and Bangladesh. In a game full of fluctuating fortunes, the hosts hold the edge going into day 3. In what turned out to be an absorbing day's cricket, Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah showed patience and self-belief to compile well-constructed fifties. However, the South African camp would be pleased with the fact that they were able to prise out both of them, before they could get a big score.

In fact, the wicket of Mahmudullah just before the heavens opened up and it started to rain, would have lifted the spirits of the South African camp. Unfortunately, the rain didn't relent and in the end, the play was called off for the day. Hopefully, the weather will be much better tomorrow. We will be here nice and early as always. However, Bangladesh would rue the fact that both of them got in, but couldn't convert it into a big one. Simon Harmer, the off-spinner, was the pick of the bowlers. He got sharp turn and extra bounce. Philander concentrated on bowling a stump-to-stump line and was rewarded with the scalp of Mahmudullah late in the day.

On a day when we saw attritional cricket, it was Bangladesh, who got their noses in front. Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah were the key performers for the hosts and they essayed well-measured fifties.

It was Simon Harmer, who got the ball to turn and bounce, and was rewarded with the wicket of Mominul Haque. The visitors also had a lucky break in the sense that Kayes was stumped down the leg-side off van Zyl's bowling.

de Kock and Tamim are having some verbal exchanges. There is a bit of pushing and shoving from both of them. This doesn't look good and definitely, the match referee will take this into account when he prepares his match report. Hashim Amla and the umpires had to intervene in the middle of the heated exchange. Dale Steyn has his arms around Tamim as he tries to calm the Bangladeshi opener down. If we look back at South Africa's innings, Faf du Plessis and Dean Elgar seemed to have taken them to a good position. However, once both of them were dismissed, they collapsed in a heap. Now, South Africa will depend on Dale Steyn and Co. to strike back. Unfortunately, showers are predicted for the day. Fingers crossed that we will get a full day's play.

Day 2: Hello and a warm welcome to our ball-by-ball coverage of the Test match between Bangladesh and South Africa. Yesterday, Bangladesh put up a sterling show to skittle out the visitors for a modest total. It was Mustafizur Rahman, who picked up four wickets on his debut. In fact, in a single over, he sent back Hashim Amla, JP Duminy and Quinton de Kock to the pavilion. The spin trio of Jubair Hossain, Taijul Islam and Shakib Al Hasan gave him good support. The seamer, Mohammad Shahid also bowled well, but without much luck. For the hosts, the promising Temba Bavuma gave a good account of himself with a well-constructed fifty.

Stumps, Day 1: Bangladesh will be very happy with how things have turned out today. After their bowlers ran through the Proteas' batting line-up, Tamim and Kayes did well to keep the South African bowlers out for a tricky period of just 2 overs. They will now look for a good first innings lead when they come out to bat tomorrow. The South Africans though will have an uphill task to bowl the Tigers out early.
