Virender Sehwag of the Gemini Arabians is pitted against Sourav Ganguly of the Libra Lengends in the opening match of the Masters Champions League (MCL), a Twenty20 tournament featuring retired international cricketers, according to the schedule announced.

The League would be played between January 28 to February 13 in the UAE, with matches being held in Sharjah and Dubai. A total of 6 teams – Libra Legends, Gemini Arabians, Capricorn Commanders, Leo Lions, Virgo Super Kings and Sagittarius Strikers – would be participating. Each team has a 15-member squad with star-studded line-ups including Jacques Kallis, Muttiah Muralitharan, Kumar Sangakkara, Adam Gilchrist, Daniel Vettori, Brett Lee and Brian Lara among others.

The MCL has acquired a 10-year approval from the Emirates Cricket Board, the official governing body for the sport in the Arab nation. 18 matches will be played throughout the tournament including the semi-finals and the final.

The tournament would proceed in a round-robin manner, with each team playing the other once. The top four teams would be proceeding to the semi-finals to be held in Dubai on February 11 and 12, while the final is scheduled for February 13 also in Dubai.
