Cricket West Indies (CWI) has offered its players "temporary amnesty" to select the best players for their ODI team, keeping in mind the 2019 Cricket World Cup. 

CWI has a strict policy of selection in which they only select players who play in the domestic 50-over tournament. 

Owing to this policy, star players who were a part of the winning 2016 T20 World Cup team like Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine and Samuel Badree, were not being selected in the ODIs. 

But, being given a pardon, they could be back in the ODI team as early as their tour of England next month.  

CWI chief executive Johnny Grave said, 

“

We recognize that it is highly unlikely that we will now automatically qualify for the 2019 World Cup, so whilst the qualifying tournament has yet to be confirmed by ICC, we may only have eight ODIs against England and New Zealand in the next six months to prepare. It is crucial that we can have our best-performing Windies players available for selection in these important games. 

” 

On 30th September 2017, the top 8 ranked teams in the ODI rankings will automatically qualify for the 2019 ODI World Cup in England. The rest will have to go through a qualifying tournament, in which the top 2 only will qualify. 

West Indies are currently ranked 9th in the ODI rankings and are highly unlikely to qualify automatically. Hence, they will need their best team to practice in their upcoming ODIs and for the qualifying tournament. 

West Indies recently lost the 5-match ODI series 3-1 to India. They are next scheduled to tour England.
