Head Coach of Indian Team announced

Former Indian player and Team India Director, Ravi Shastri has been appointed as the new head coach of Team India.

Former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan has been named as the bowling consultant and former batsman Rahul Dravid has been named as the batting consultant on overseas tours.

There was a lot of confusion earlier in the day as it was reported Ravi Shastri would be the head coach but the CAC denied it. But, late on Tuesday night, it was made official.

Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus and Lalchand Rajput were the other candidates in the running.

After Anil Kumble stepped down as coach after reports of a rift between him and Virat Kohli, there were a lot of applicants for the role of Team India's head coach.

Ravi Shastri was the Team director back in 2014 till 2016 and under him, India reached the semi-final of the World Cup in 2015 and later they reached the semi-final in World T20 in 2016 as well. However, the World T20 in 2016 was his last tournament as a Team Director.

Ravi Shastri's duty as a head coach will be till the World Cup in 2019 and his, Zaheer and Dravid's first assignments as coaches will begin later in this month where India will be touring Sri Lanka.

India's tour of Sri Lanka consists of 3 tests, 5 ODIs and just one T20 which will begin on the 26th of July.
