Bangladesh's Shahadat Hossain surrenders in court

Dhaka: Bangladesh fast bowler Shahadat Hossain turned himself in the court on Monday to face charges of torturing an 11-year-old housemaid, a day after his wife was arrested.

Shahadat and his wife have been missing and on the run after the allegations surfaced last month. A case was registered against them under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Shahadat's wife was arrested here on Sunday.

Bangladesh Cricket Board has suspended the bowler from all forms of cricket until the charges are cleared.

Shahadat submitted the bail petition before the court. The court might hear his appeal later on Monday, his lawyer Kazi Mohammad Nazibullah Hiru said.

The 29-year-old Hossain, who has played 38 Tests and 51 ODIs for Bangladesh, last played in a Test against Pakistan earlier this year but was then dropped because of injuries.
