Sri Lanka batsman Niroshan Dickwella has been handed a 2-match ban after showing dissent at an umpire’s decision.
During the 2nd T20 against Australia, Dickwella was given wrongly out by Umpire Simon Fry.
The ICC said in a statement that after he was given out, Dickwella
“
Paused to view the replay, kicked the turf and looked at his shoulder for a prolonged period of time.
”
The punishment was a 30% fine of his match fee and 2 demerit points but he already has an existing 3 demerit points.
According to the new rule, if a player reaches 5 demerit points, they get converted to a two-match ban.
Dickwella had accrued three demerit points following an incident in which he and Kagiso Rabada made contact on the field during Sri Lanka’s 3rd ODI match against South Africa.
Sri Lanka have already won the 3-match T20 series 2-0, with one T20 to go.
