New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White will be called as a witness in Chris Cairns' perjury trial.

He will join Black Caps captain Brendon McCullum in testifying when Cairns' High Court trial for perjury starts on October 5 in London.

A New Zealand Cricket spokesman confirmed to Radio New Zealand White had been called to appear. It is likely this will be done via video link from New Zealand.

Cairns won £90,000 (NZ$200,000) in damages in 2012 when he sued Indian Premier League founder Lalit Modi over a tweet that accused the New Zealander of match-fixing.

Now the Crown alleges Cairns made a statement during that trial that he knew to be false, when he declared he'd :

“never, ever cheated at cricket.”

A four-week trial was delayed to October to allow testimony from key witnesses available only during down time in the international cricket calendar.

Former New Zealand cricketers Shane Bond and Andre Adams are among those slated to testify.

Lawyers confirmed they would appear via video link from the United States and New Zealand respectively.
