Dinesh Chandimal out of the World Cup

Sydney: Sri Lanka suffered another injury setback at the World Cup on Tuesday when batsman Dinesh Chandimal was ruled out of the tournament to be replaced by Kusal Perera. (Complete coverage of World Cup 2015)

Chandimal picked up a hamstring injury during his side's 64-run loss to Australia in Sydney on Sunday where he hit a fine 24-ball 52 before being forced to retire hurt.

Perera, 24, has played 41 ODIs and scored 839 runs with one century and four half-centuries. His last ODI was against England in Pallekele in December 2014.

Sri Lanka, who have qualified for the quarter-finals from Pool A ahead of their concluding group game against Scotland in Hobart on Wednesday, have already seen two other players limp home.

Batsman Dimuth Karunaratne suffered a tournament-ending broken finger batting in the nets and was replaced by leg-spinner Seekkuge Prasanna while all-rounder Jeevan Mendis was ruled out earlier in the World Cup with a hamstring injury to be replaced by batsman Upul Tharanga.

Key spinner Rangana Herath missed the game against Australia with a finger injury leading to Seekkuge Prasanna being called into the squad as cover.
