When the opener tries to use the thigh guard as a chest guard

December 2, 1977.

Ian Chappell loses the toss and has been asked to have a bat.

Chappell comes back to the dressing room and sees his openers getting ready to face the music.

Ian Davis was busy putting on a thigh pad. After putting on one, he takes the other one in his hand. He tries to put it round his chest.
He had a look at himself in the mirror and took it off. Then he put it back on. Then he took it off again.

He was about to face a bowling attack consisting of Holding, Roberts and Daniel.

It was not a Test match.
It was a Super Test match. The first one in Packer's circus.
