Brian Close was one of a kind, both on and off the field.
He was an ambidextrous cricketer. He also played golf, with both hands.
Someone asked him how he decided with which hand to play on a certain day. He replied: “Oh, it’s quite easy. If I wake up and my wife’s on her right side, I play right handed and if she’s on her left side, I play left handed. It’s as easy as that.”
Then the man asked what if his wife was lying on her back when he woke up?
He replied, “Oh I ring up to say I’m going to be an hour late!”
