The real reason behind England not winning

Norman Yardley was the skipper of the England team in the 1948 Ashes. He led his side gallantly but they were comprehensively defeated by Bradman's 'Invincibles'.

After the series, Yardley received a letter from an old lady. She had heard on the radio that Lindwall had two long-legs, one short-leg and a square-leg.

Hence she wrote: "Tell me, Mr. Yardley, what kind of creatures are these Australian cricketers? No wonder England can't win."
