The curious case of Brian Close
When Yorkshure fired Brian Close, Somerset did just about everything to get him in their team. Close was reluctant initially but he later agreed to play for them. He soon became the captain and changed things for the better.
However, when he was the Somerset captain, he was recalled to the England team to face the West Indian quicks.
On the day he was recalled to the national team, at the age of 45, Close, visibly overjoyed, told team mate Peter Robinson, "You know, lad, it's the first year I haven't put the Tests in my diary!"
