Seeing enough of Geoffrey Boycott

Sam Cook was a great servant of Gloucestershire cricket.

After retiring from FC cricket, Sam became an umpire. But after one season he was forced to take a break due to his wife's illness. He made a comeback in 1971 and continued for another sixteen seasons.

In 1971, he was one of the umpires in the Essex v Yorkshire match at Colchester.

Yorkshire batted first and Boycott was on 233 when Sam gave him out lbw. Robin Hobbs was the bowler and even he was sure that Boycott was not out.

Boycott was running for the leg bye when Sam said, "That's out."

"No, no,no, Sam. That can't be lbw.", screamed Boycott.

"That's out.", Sam said once again and then turned to Hobbs and whispered, "I think we have seen enough of him."
