The strict Sergeant-Major
|
|
George Emmett was one of the better captains to lead Gloucestershire CCC. He was promoted to Sergeant-Major in the war but he relinquished it and chose to remain as one of the 'boys'.
He was a short man but with a lot of authority.
Before going out to field, his players were required to show him their boots- he wanted to check if they had all the studs in. Also, the flannels with no stains was a must for Emmett. In the field the players had to look at him after every ball to see if he was wanting to move them.
The players respected him. Some were even afraid of him. But they loved him as well.
