Richie Benaud, struggling to make the flipper work, managed to persuade the Adelaide expatriate to demonstrate it.
Benaud knew that no one bowled it better than him.
He even began to emulate his tight, truncated run.
It was Bruce Dooland, the Australian who dominated county cricket in the mid 1950s.
