The Bradman factor

The first edition of Wisden Australia appeared in 1998 despite making a promise to the readers as early as in 1981.

But things could have been very different- the first edition could well have appeared before World War II.

Wisden considered opening a factory in Australia in 1930. The depression struck soon and there were no orders from Australia. Wisden didn't fear the depression much and they were still hopeful of making it big in that country. Some even hoped that there would be an Australian Almanack hitting the stores fairly soon.

But they feared one factor which boosted the sports goods industry in Australia.

It was Bradman. That name made Wisden change their decision.
