In 1951-52, the MCC set out for its first cricket tour of the newly independent countries of India and Pakistan. 17 cricketers, 2 journalists and a manager.
Geoffrey Howard, the manager, was new to cricket administration.
As he was about to leave England to visit India, the MCC secretary chuckled at him and whispered in his ears: "Well, good luck, old boy. Rather you than me. I can't stand educated Indians."
