Welcome back.. Can Zimbabwe get some early wicket? Will the inexperienced Indian batting-line up make this target look easy? Rahul and Karun are the openers, understanding shouldn't be an issue then. Chatara with the new ball.. Two slips in place..
It was the Indian bowlers who dictated the terms throughout the innings as Zimbabwe batting never got going. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals as they folded up for a below par total. Yuzvendra Chahal was impressive on his debut. The others bowlers chipped in as well. Even as wickets kept tumbling at one end, Chigumbura stood tall amidst the ruins and displayed a semblance of fight. This should be a stroll in the park for the Indian batsmen, but will Zimbabwe put up a fight? Join us in a while for the chase..

Barinder to Peter Moor, out Lbw!! Finally, Sran has a wicket to his name. He should have had both the openers. Nevertheless, it is an early breakthrough for India. Very similar to the one Chibhabha survived off the first ball. The length was a bit shorter and it nipped back in, Moor is not fast enough to get his bat down and is hit on the kneeroll. The impact was around off and middle. Sran's polite appeal was answered by the raise of the finger from Tiffin. Peter Moor lbw b Barinder 3(5)

So that brings an end to the proceedings. Zimbabwe put up a below par performance with the bat and posted a meagre total. Although their bowlers troubled the batsmen initially, Rahul and Rayudu batted sensibly and guided India to a comprehensive win. Join us for the 2nd ODI which is on Monday. Till then, it's a goodbye from all of us here. Ta-ta!
Rahul: "The wicket was tough. I couldn't be complacent. I just wanted to play the first 10 overs and am really satisfied with my batting. I just got told by my manager (about him being the first Indian to score a ton on debut). It feels good to get a hundred on debut. There was no thinking, I had to hit the six. Still five more games and hoping to carry on the good form. We have come here for the first time; my first time with the ODI team and we are loving it so far."
KL Rahul is adjudged the Man of the Match for becoming the first Indian batsman to score a century on ODI debut
Dhoni: "It was a very good performance. It was important to start well and the fast bowlers gave us a good start. The spinners also came in and did their job. It is difficult to judge what is a good score. It was not easy to rotate the strike. We can't say that 240 would have been a good total as our approach would have been different. It is important to win the first game of the three-match series."
Cremer: "Obviously disappointing. We knew we didn't get enough. We should have got 220-230. Few guys got in and got out, we needed someone to get 80 or 100. The Indians showed how easy it becomes once you are set. We know we are a better team than that. Hopefully, we can win the next one and make the one on Wednesday a final."
The chief architects of the win were the Indian bowlers, who struck at regular intervals to keep the hosts down to a sub-par total on what looked like tricky conditions for batting. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets to break the back of the Zimbabwean middle-order.
An all-round performance by the mighty Indians seals an emphatic victory over a side starved of international cricket. KL Rahul and Ambati Rayudu made the chase seem pretty elementary, knocking off the target with absolutely no pressure. After the fall of Nair's wicket, both batsmen decided to play out the early burst from the seamers, who managed to utilize the spongy bounce to get the new ball to zip around. Special mention to Chamu Chibhabha who finished with excellent figures of 8-1-14-0 and could easily have had a couple in the wickets column. But once the spinners and the part-timers came on, both batsmen capitalised and got to their respective half-centuries. In the process, Rahul notched up the highest individual score on debut for India and Rayudu became the fifth fastest Indian to get to the 1000-run pedestal.
