Even though West Indies got both Thirimanne and Perera out in a space of 3 overs, captain Mathews made sure that he holds one end up for the home team. Chandimal and Siriwardana threw away their starts and it was the pair of Mathews and Jayasuriya that saw Sri Lanka through to the end - a premature finish after the heavens opened up yet again. However, since West Indies had already lost 6 wickets before the first rain stoppage, the target was adjusted to 190 for Sri Lanka. The hosts got off to a very good start with both Dilshan and Perera going great guns at the beginning. Even though Dilshan got out for 21, Perera kept playing his shots. He reached his fifty and put on a good 55-run stand with Thirimanne for the second wicket.
Sri Lanka win the series 3-0! The better team won once again. After Mathews opted to field, the West Indies were in shambles early on, slumping to 52/5 at one stage. Even though the rain kept halting play, Marlon Samuels didn't lose his concentration and played a brilliant knock.
