Parthiv: "The ball was coming on nicely. Mitchell Johnson bowls with pace so it was easy to hit early on. As an opener you have to take some chances in the first six overs and it was good to get a fifty. However, the pitch slowed down as the innings progressed and I think 172 is a good score."
It was Karanveer Singh and to a lesser extent Axar Patel, who bowled a few tidy overs. Anureet Singh and Sandeep too bowled with decent control in the slog overs. PUN have been below par this season. Their batsmen have to rise to the occasion in a crucial tie.
Parthiv Patel and Lendl Simmons strung together an entertaining stand to guide MUM to a good total. After Simmons essayed a couple of fluent shots off Sandeep Sharma in the first over, Parthiv Patel took over by smacking Mitchell Johnson all over the park. He treated Johnson with disdain by ramping him over the wicket-keeper for a six and then hoicking the pacer across the line for another six. At the other end of the spectrum, Simmons gave him valuable support. However, after an excellent start, MUM lost their way. Rohit Sharma in particular, struggled for timing.
Mumbai could score just four boundaries in the last 4 overs. Great bowling, especially from Sandeep Sharma and Anureet Singh.

Simmons: "It's about getting the basics right at the start. It's a pretty flat batting wicket and the outfield is very fast and once you apply yourselves, you get runs. In India the ball comes on nicely onto the bat than back home."
Lendl Simmons is the Man of the Match
Rohit: "I think the guys have started taking responsibility. At the start of the tournament we were actually confused if we should continue with two seamers and two batters. But when Finch got injured, it gave us a chance to get McClenaghan and he's done well for us. The start was very important. We've been getting good partnerships in the last three-four games and we won. Hope that it continues. Malinga has been a magical performer for us. "
It was an enterprising stand between Parthiv Patel and Lendl Simmons that set the platform for MUM's powerful middle-order to come into play. However, the home team gave a good account of themselves in the end overs to stem the run flow. With this loss, PUN now have to win all their last five games to have a chance to qualify for the playoffs.
MUM put up a disciplined effort with the ball to usurp the hosts. Both Mitchell McClenaghan and Lasith Malinga showed the resolve and the self-belief in the slog overs to execute the plans to perfection. David Miller, known for his power-packed game, couldn't up the tempo and was eventually dismissed by Malinga. George Bailey too struggled to check in shots. One has to also remember that Harbhajan Singh kept the opposition on their toes by bowling with good control.
