Hogg: "I really enjoyed it. We were under the pump and I managed to get McCullum out, was little lucky there. There is a little bit of spin, but you have to land it in the correct areas. It is a pretty big total and if they bowl well, it will be difficult. But, I think if we bat well, we should be able to chase it down."
Hogg shone brightly by using the potent googly to prise out du Plessis. He also sent McCullum back to the pavilion and ended up with four wickets. Chawla too made an impact by taking MS Dhoni's wicket. Bravo and Jadeja then steered CHN to safety. To make it even better for them, Pawan Negi played a handy knock and clouted Cummins for three fours in a single over. The hosts didn't help their cause by dropping a couple of catches. The track is offering turn and CHN will believe they have the arsenal to overcome KOL in their own den.
Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja played with composure to help CHN recover and pilot them to a good total. It was Brendon McCullum, who smashed Pat Cummins and Co. to shreds to give the visitors a blazing start. However, Brad Hogg and Piyush Chawla with their bagful of tricks took a slew of wickets to stem the run flow.

Gambhir: 'It was a very important test for us, especially the way we messed up in the last match. It was a test of our character and temperament, the guys stood up to the challenge. If you want to play like defending champions, we had to pass this test. The way Russell and Robin batted, was just too good. We pulled things back magnificently after the initial pounding. The guys batted aggressively and took us home. We thought about containing them to 120-130 after they lost those quick wickets. But we knew that we can chase it down after they went past 160. We had amazing firepower, Robin and Russell batted extremely well. Robin batted till the end, the way he batted was the key. One of the top 3 have to bat for a long time. Robin had the temperament to bat for long and he showed us his class today.'
Dhoni: 'It was a very good score. The reason we were there was because of Negi. We lost a few wickets, but we also wanted to attack. We want to be a bit more aggressive, especially when we are on top of the points table. Jadeja didn't bowl that well today, he went for a few runs today. The wrist spinners get slightly more purchase. The wicket got much better as the game progressed. Negi bowled well, I thought his spell was good. Ashwin is injured now and we will evaluate how quick is he healing to decide on his future.'
For CHN, Brendon McCullum played a buccaneering innings. Brad Hogg and Piyush Chawla though, put the brakes on the scoring rate by taking wickets at regular intervals. It was Bravo and to a lesser extent Ravindra Jadeja, who resurrected the innings. KOL would be happy to get back to winning ways, while CHN were let down by the fact that their spinners didn't exactly make an impact.
Robin Uthappa and Andre Russell took their game to an elevated plane as KOL won a keenly contested tie. Uthappa played a well-constructed knock. He started his innings by exploring every nook and corner of the ground to rotate the strike. It was in the 15th over when Uthappa decided to up the ante. He reeled off a series of fine shots off Ashish Nehra. During that over he even showed deft touch to open the face and guide the left-arm pacer through third man for a couple of fours. At the other end of the spectrum, Russell played power-packed shots and gave Uthappa valuable support. He showed his class by thumping Dwayne Bravo for two sixes in a single over. It got a bit tense in the end before KOL won with one ball to spare.
