Two slips in place

Welcome back.. Southee has the new ball and will open the bowling for RAJ.

Nair: "He (Rahane) has been batting really well. I asked how the pitch is playing. He has been playing throughout and I want to play like him. He plays proper cricketing shots."

Rahane: "I really enjoyed batting with Karun. He has been batting pretty well and he got an opportunity today. I just try to keep it simple. The last match I tried to play too many shots and got out, didn't want to repeat that today. I never think about anything when I go about to bat."

On the other hand, DEL didn't help their cause by dropping a slew of catches and their ground fielding was sloppy as well. Among the bowlers, Angelo Mathews was impressive. The deck is offering a bit of movement off the seam for the pacers and they should back themselves to defend the target.

Ajinkya Rahane showed precise metre of timing to play a crunching innings and take RAJ to a sizeable total. It was a well-constructed knock from Rahane as he initially looked to play himself in before opening up his shoulders to crack fine strokes. He reached his fifty in style by pulling Coulter-Nile for a six. Karun Nair too touched compelling peaks and scored a quick-fire fifty. He and Rahane strung together a 100-run partnership.

19.3 - Gurinder Sandhu to Rahane, 1 run, back of a length on off, Rahane swats it along the ground to long-on

19.2 - Gurinder Sandhu to Rahane, FOUR, sloppy from NCN. Rahane gives the charge to Sandhu, takes it on the full and chips it to long-off, the batsmen were settling with one, but Coulter-Nile needlessly hurries towards the ball and lets it go through. Rahane into the 90s now. Can he get a hundred?

Full delivery just outside off, Nair backs away to the leg-side, slices it to sweeper cover, Mishra runs forward and takes an easy catch. Finally, DEL managed to hold onto one. Nair c Mishra b Coulter-Nile 61(38) [4s-6 6s-2]

Coulter-Nile to Nair, THATS OUT!! Caught!!

Agarwal then went on and crashed into the ad hoardings. He is getting some treatment from the physio just outside the boundary line. Hopefully, it is nothing serious as DEL need him with the bat

18.1 - Coulter-Nile to Nair, SIX, has Agarwal hurt himself? The off-speed delivery, Nair heaves it across the line to deep mid-wicket, he got enough wood to clear a leaping Agarwal, he got a fingertip but it went all the way

17.1 - Zaheer to Rahane, no run, how did that miss the leg-stump? Zaheer has his hands on his head. He can't believe it. Yorker around leg-stump, Rahane walks across his stumps, fails to get bat on that, the ball misses by a whisker

16.1 - Gurinder Sandhu to Rahane, 2 runs, collision between Mishra and Zaheer. But they see the funnier side of that, both have a smile on their face. However, they have given a life to Rahane. Fullish and outside off, Rahane toe-ends the loft over extra cover, Mishra was running back from extra cover, Zaheer comes forward from mid-off, the ball eludes both of them. More agile fielders would have got there

Aakash Chopra: It looked a lot closer than it actually was #DEL needed its marquee players to win this. JP needed help. #T20 League #RAJ one win away from playoffs.

Rahane: "Just keep it really simple. When I try to do something, I get out. I played a rash shot in the previous game and wanted to make it count today. How you adjust to the format is very important. Watto just told me to back my instinct. It is important to build a foundation in the first 6 overs and later on back our game. He (Karun Nair) batted really well, he didn't get a big score in the last 9-10 games. We were just discussing about timing the ball as it was a fast outfield. I am really enjoying it. I am not thinking about the Orange Cap, I just want to keep it simple and score runs."

Ajinkya Rahane is the Man of the Match for his 54-ball 91.

Watson: "We did have to turn it around. To get 190 on that wicket was a great effort. Ajinkya and Karun were brilliant. Then the bowlers did an excellent job of defending the total. I did think the ball would seam around as there was some grass. It was a good cricket wicket. We did a really good job. It helped with the ball swinging around. Hopefully, we win every game. We have got the momentum back and we can't let go now."

Duminy: "I still think it was the right decision (inserting RAJ into bat). We were probably guilty of not putting the ball in the right place. I still thought that 190 was gettable on this wicket. We didn't get any partnerships going. We have to win 5 more to qualify. We have the squad that can get us through to the playoffs. I just thought it was more seamer friendly, so thought I wasn't needed. Batting at No. 3 and leading has been a new experience and I am enjoying it. We let ourselves down in the field today and have to get ourselves up for the next game."

However, it has to be said that RAJ's bowling in the slog overs was again below par. Earlier, it was Ajinkya Rahane, who shone brightly with a wide array of shots and composed a brilliant knock. Karun Nair played a breezy innings and ended up with a fifty to his name. DEL didn't help their cause by dropping catches. Their ground fielding was poor as well. With this win, RAJ climb to the top slot in the points table. However, they have played two more games than the second placed CHN.

RAJ took advantage of a track that offered a bit of help for the pacers to emerge victorious. Tim Southee bowled a decent spell up front. Shane Watson and James Faulkner then made an impact by taking wickets. Stuart Binny was expensive, but he also landed crucial blows. For DEL, JP Duminy played a lone hand and essayed a fine fifty. Yuvraj Singh and Saurabh Tiwary landed a few crunching blows, but in the end, it wasn't enough to overhaul the target.

The RAJ players are delighted with the win. They congratulate each other and the two DEL batsmen in the middle. Rahane is leading them out of the field. DEL players and the team management come out and shake hands with the victorious side. With this win, RAJ go back on top of the points table.
