Welcome back for the run chase.. Two slips in place for Starc.
Under overcast conditions, England's pacers were disappointing as they didn't hit the right lengths. There was definitely enough seam movement on offer for the seamers early on in the innings. Chris Woakes was the only bowler on show who bowled with good control. Finn performed well in patches and picked up a couple of scalps. The track has kept the pacers interested and Moeen Ali extracted a bit of turn. However, if the home team's batsmen show good application against the new ball, they still can overhaul this target. Earlier, due to a persistent drizzle, it was reduced to 49-overs-per-side.
Steven Smith, George Bailey and Glenn Maxwell cracked entertaining knocks to drive the tourists to a substantial total. In the slog overs, Shane Watson and Mitchell Marsh then played some power-packed strokes to up the ante. It was during Moeen Ali's 8th over that Watson and Marsh showed their class by clouting him for 19 runs. Both were timely knocks in the sense that Australia had just lost a bit of momentum after losing Maxwell's wicket. One has to also give credit to Smith and Bailey for setting up the platform after David Warner was hit on his left thumb by a short delivery from Steven Finn and had to retire hurt.
Australia will be very happy with 309 on the board. Mitch Marsh's cameo has helped them get at least 10-15 runs extra than what they looked like getting at one stage.

So that concludes a cracking game of cricket. Whether Stokes was out or not, I leave it to you. Was it just instinctive reaction or was it deliberate action? Some would argue that he was not deliberately trying to stop ball, while some would say his hand was well outside his body. Anyway, we move on and these two teams will meet again on Tuesday for the third ODI. Looking forward to your company then. Take care, goodbye!
Marsh: "It's been a nice start. We have been great as a team in the last 18 odd months. We focussed a lot on the lower-order and it's good to do well. A great win all-round. I think I was swinging too hard the other day, it came out well today. We knew that if we take wickets and build the pressure we can win."
Mitchell Marsh is the Man of the Match
The crowd was continuously booing Smith when he was being interviewed. Smith just smiled at them and continued unruffled
Smith: "It's a bit disappointing. The umpires are there to make a decision. The third umpire saw it as we saw and was given out. If you wilfully put your hand out and stop the ball, you are given out. I don't want to shy away from the fact that it was a great game of cricket as well. The guys showed great character to do well and win the game. Truly disappointed to lose David Warner like that, hopefully it's an opportunity for another guy. Our fielding was quite sloppy today. Hopefully we can improve and play good cricket to win the series in the next game."
Morgan: "When the conditions were helping us, it was important for us to be disciplined, but we were not. We conceded 25-30 runs too many. I think Australia were disciplined and they certainly outplayed us today. I managed to get some time in the middle. A guy throws the ball in your direction from 5 yards you just flinch and it's your natural reaction. I'm not sure, the decision was made. I think it's just a natural reaction to protect. If this had happened when we were fielding, you would have seen a different decision. If I was the opposition captain on the field, I would have withdrawn the appeal."
Alright, Morgan is ready now and the presentation is about to begin.
There is a delay in the post-match presentation as Eoin Morgan is not available. He's in a team meeting inside the England dressing room. David Gower on air jokes, "Well, they have a day tomorrow to do it."
Today's game also was spiced up by controversy. Stokes was given out obstructing the field. Starc had fired in the throw and the left-hander had put his left hand up to stop the ball. It was heading towards the stumps. Australia appealed for it and Stokes was given out. Stokes became the sixth cricketer to be given out in that manner. The crowd certainly didn't like it as they continued to boo Starc all the time. Even Eoin Morgan had a chat or two about it with Steven Smith.
The bowlers then combined together to take crucial scalps as the hosts hurtled towards a defeat. Pat Cummins, in particular, bowled with fire and aggression to trouble all the batsmen. Cummins was duly rewarded with four wickets. Among the batsmen, only Morgan was able to handle the pacers with any degree of confidence. In the end overs, he and Liam Plunkett even played some believe-it-or-not strokes, but it was too little too late. Earlier, due to rain, it was reduced to 49-overs-per-side. The home team need to up their game if they want to win the third match and make a comeback in this five-match series.
Good performances with both bat and ball, piloted the tourists to their second win on the trot. If fifties from George Bailey and Steven Smith set the platform for a big score, then Mitchell Marsh's sparkling shots in the slog overs lifted the visitors to their second successive 300-plus total. The English pacers didn't help their cause by not hitting the right lines and lengths in helpful conditions.
The players shake hands with each other. Eoin Morgan and Steve Smith have a long chat, must be about Ben Stokes' dismissal. Pat Cummins pats Morgan on the back.

The Aussies are very concerned about Morgan there. However, Morgan immediately said that he was fine. The physio too is out. Morgan is just shaking his head to make sure that he is fine. Remember, for any batsman there is a blind spot and that is why Morgan missed out. Thankfully it hit the ear, otherwise it would have struck Morgan almost in the same area where Phil Hughes got hit at the SCG, which cost him his life. Also, Morgan is not wearing that protective padding (around the neck) that is there in the new Masuri helmets

Maxwell to Buttler, out Lbw!! Buttler too is out and now England are in all sorts of trouble. It was a delivery that was bowled on the stumps, Buttler tried to work it through the on-side and missed. No wonder, Australians straightaway went up in unison for lbw. However, after having a close look at it, the on-field umpire decided to not give it out. It was a fuller delivery from Starc, Stokes drove it back towards the bowler, Starc collects it in his followthrough and throws it back at the stumps, Stokes though, gets in the way, he gets a glove onto it. While Stokes was trying to back to the crease with the bat in his right hand, it appeared as if he unnecessarily put his left hand up and stopped the ball, which was heading towards the stumps. The Australians appeal for obstruction. The umpires go to the third umpire who believes that there was enough evidence to give the batsman out. There were a lot of boos from the crowd as they believe the Aussies shouldn't have appealed for it. Stokes obstructing the field 10(7) [4s-1]
