Superb stuff from DEL. Whadday comeback! Can they take that momentum forward? Gujarat do the customary huddle-cuddle as QDK and Sanju Samson wander out to the middle. 12 - The jersey number of QDK. Guess which of the Indian star cricketers has the same number? YUVI in case you aren't aware. PK will start the proceedings for the Lions. One slip in place. Off we go...

"It looks like a good wicket for us, they played beautifully and took their chances and got themselves to a good score. I have just been very lucky. Happy I am performing for my team. Hopefully we can pull it off tonight, I usually bowl down the leg-side or leg stump, it came off well tonight (talking about the slower ball full toss which dismissed McCullum)," says Morris as he struggles to catch his breath during the interview

How do you describe this innings? Let's put it as a decelerating F1 car. 110/0 at the halfway mark and then a flurry of wickets forced a crawl, like for real. Smith and McCullum had arrived on their segways tonight - used their feet, swung their bats and rendered lengths impotent with blistering half-centuries. The duo compiled the fastest T20 League team fifty and hundred this season, but just when you could entertain thoughts of a VERY big score, Tahir dismissed Smith to end the partnership in the 11th over. Morris then followed up with a 2-wicket over that consumed McCullum and Raina *million dollar clink*. Jadeja, Ishan Kishan and Karthik could only manage guest appearances, Faulkner's cameo underwhelmed and so did Gujarat, with just, relatively speaking, 172 runs on board. Chase coming up in a while!

19.6 - C Morris to Faulkner, 2 runs, full ball outside off, Faulkner mistimes the loft off the bottom of the bat. Gets it wide of the man at long-off and will end the innings with a couple. What a comeback by the hosts

19.5 - C Morris to Faulkner, FOUR, one bad ball and it has been punished. Missed the yorker and ended up dishing a full toss, Faulkner flogged it to beat the man scouting the deep mid-wicket fence. Duminy was the man who ran to his right but could not stop it from crossing the fence

19.4 - C Morris to Dwayne Bravo, 1 run, Bravo throws his bat on the heave, fails to time it well, gets a single to long-on

19.3 - C Morris to Faulkner, 1 run, what happened there? Faulkner wanted to lap it fine, but the full toss was well outside off, all Faulkner could do was get it off the edge of the inner part of the bat, the ball rolled to deep backward square leg

19.2 - C Morris to Dwayne Bravo, 1 run, and another yorker that almost scythed Bravo's legs. He does well to get some bat and works through mid-wicket

19.1 - C Morris to Faulkner, 1 run, angles the yorker into Faulkner, who was backing away, works it to deep backward square leg

18.4 - Zaheer to Faulkner, no run, and Zaheer angles this slower delivery, Faulkner was early on the shot and is beaten by the bounce as well

18.2 - Zaheer to Dwayne Bravo, 1 run, shortish slow ball again, Bravo has to drop his bottom hand as he drops it in front of point for a single. Was rapped on the knuckles

18.1 - Zaheer to Dwayne Bravo, 2 runs, bowls a short bumper and Bravo mistimes the pull to short fine leg, an awful throw at the bowler's end with no one backing up allows an extra run

James Faulkner, right handed bat, comes to the crease

16.5 - Tahir to D Karthik, out Caught by Duminy!! Good catch by Duminy at short fine leg, dives in front and takes it inches off the ground. Nothing bad with the intention of Karthik, he had to go anyway. Moved across the line, eyeing to find the gap through fine leg on the sweep. Did not place it well and Duminy dived in front to make it two in two. Hat-trick ball coming up. D Karthik c Duminy b Tahir 19(17) [4s-1 6s-1]

Tahir flighted this goggly that went across the left-hander, he wanted to go up and over the cover region, could only manage to slice it off the toe part of the bat, the ball skied high at cover and an easy catch for the fielder. 16.1 - Tahir to Ishan Kishan, leg byes, 1 run, Tahir is too smart for the youngster, saw him coming down the track and fired it on his pads. He misses the sweep, gets it off his pad to short third man

14.3 - Duminy to Jadeja, out Caught by de Kock!! Amazing captaincy, how well has Zaheer planned things today! Quicker delivery that had some room to flay the cut, Jadeja did that but not with perfection. Got a faint edge and de Kock gobbled that up. Delhi are delighted. They should be, the ploy has worked for them. Jadeja c de Kock b Duminy 4(7)

Jean-Paul Duminy, right-arm off break, comes into the attack

Time-out again. Perhaps they did not take the break when sawdust was being sprayed over. Tahir's 3 overs have been brilliant. Got the crucial wicket of McCullum and has given only 16 runs in his 3 overs, the kind of effort Delhi needed to pull things back. We are entering the final 6 overs, the unsaid powerplay

Raina 2(5) D Karthik 1(1) C Morris 2-0-14-2

11.6 - C Morris to Raina, out Caught by Nair!! This is what happens when you have a bowler as the captain. That fielder at short backward square leg was kept for this shot by Raina, where he hops back and tucks the shortish ball around the corner. The ball was short hurled towards the rib-cage area, Raina played it straight to the fielder there. Brilliant field placing by Zaheer Khan. Raina c Nair b C Morris 2(5)

C Morris to Raina, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

11.5 - C Morris to Raina, no run, sticks to the shortish line across the left-hander, Raina once again gets on his toes and defends

There is a delay. Perhaps some issue with Morris's landing area. Sawdust is being strewn over to sort it out. Meanwhile, they have taken the time-out as well. Morris is happy now. Goes back to his bowling run-up

11.4 - C Morris to Raina, no run, back of a length and Raina hops in the crease to defend it back to the bowler

Slip in place

11.3 - C Morris to D Karthik, 1 run, dishes it on a fuller length and Karthik drives towards Zak at extra cover, who misfields to allow a single

Dinesh Karthik, right handed bat, comes to the crease

11.2 - C Morris to Brendon McCullum, out Bowled!! The notion that the full toss is a bad delivery is a fallacy. At least on this occasion. It was a slower full toss, that dipped in as well, McCullum swung across and missed it. The ball hit the base of the leg-stick and McCullum's heroics see an end. He grimaces in pain as he walks back. Perhaps that back continues to trouble him. Brendon McCullum b C Morris 60(36) [4s-6 6s-3]

C Morris to Brendon McCullum, THAT'S OUT!! Bowled!!

10.6 - Tahir to Brendon McCullum, 2 runs, that has been gently done, took this one on the full and flicked past the fielder at short fine leg, before the fielder could field in the deep, there was a couple on offer

10.5 - Tahir to Raina, 1 run, too full and Raina clips it beautifully to deep mid-wicket for a single. Off the mark he is

Suresh Raina, left handed bat, comes to the crease

10.4 - Tahir to Dwayne Smith, out Lbw!! Tahir has struck, finally a wicket for Delhi. Respite in the end! Flipper, quicker than Smith expected, was trying to work it around the corner from his crease, failed to get any bat and the umpire obliged the appeal. Smith was not happy with the decision though. He even showed his bat to the umpire. Might have to lose a chunk of his match fees. Was there an inside edge? Replays showed that there was no inside edge and the ball would have clipped the leg-stump. Dwayne Smith lbw b Tahir 53(30) [4s-5 6s-3]

Tahir to Dwayne Smith, THAT'S OUT!! Lbw!!

10.3 - Tahir to Dwayne Smith, no run, low full toss on the stumps, keeps it away from the crease

10.2 - Tahir to Brendon McCullum, 1 run, this is not just Delhi's day, Tahir tossed this one up outside off and McCullum threw his bat on it, skied it high in the air, there were two fielders converging for it at long-off, neither called for it and McCullum got a lifeline. Tahir thought that Pant from long-off would get to it and slowed down. But Pant was too slow along the turf and the ball fell between the two

9.5 - Mishra to Dwayne Smith, SIX, that hasn't been hit, this has been couriered. Straight down the ground. Deliciously flights this, Smith feasts on it and lofts it over Mishra in the most humiliating of ways. It's carnage, as Alan Wilkins calls it

9.4 - Mishra to Brendon McCullum, 1 run, shorter length and this has been punched to long-off

9.3 - Mishra to Brendon McCullum, no run, lovely delivery. Fires it outside off, gets this quicker delivery to skid and the ball was past McCullum as he was into his shuffle across. Too good

9.2 - Mishra to Dwayne Smith, 1 run, there's fear. Bowls it flat but slow wide of off, Smith reaches out and shoves it to sweeper cover

8.5 - Tahir to Brendon McCullum, FOUR, this is the 21st century. You don't use the width on legbreak to flash a cut. You switch around and reverse-sweep it uppishly (and nonchalantly) through third man

8.4 - Tahir to Dwayne Smith, 1 run, too full to call and Smith squeezes it down to long-on to rob a single

8.3 - Tahir to Brendon McCullum, 1 run, hops to get back, is crouched as he tucks it through square leg

8.2 - Tahir to Dwayne Smith, 1 run, flatter legbreak has been push-ironed to long-on

8.1 - Tahir to Brendon McCullum, 1 run, and Brendon McCullum gets a full toss to get to his fifty. A tip of a hat. Lovely innings. Why has he retired, again? On the pads and McCullum opts for sanity, tucks it to long-on and runs for the milestone

7.5 - Mishra to Brendon McCullum, 1 run, turning away and gives McCullum the width to slap it to the sweeper in the deep

7.4 - Mishra to Brendon McCullum, FOUR, fired flat but not much wide. McCullum shuffles across, protracts his hands on the sweep and slots it through mid-wicket

7.3 - Mishra to Brendon McCullum, no run, Mishra. That's why. Drifts this away, the ball had enough loop to grip and turn away to beat McCullum's reach

6.5 - S Nadeem to Dwayne Smith, 1 run, slows the pace on this considerably, keeps it full too and Smith had to do all the hard work. Doesn't and replies with a tame push that rolls to long-off

6.4 - S Nadeem to Brendon McCullum, 1 run, shortish length again and it's been slapped to long-off

6.3 - S Nadeem to Brendon McCullum, FOUR, that's absolute filth. Gives width, the length's short and and it's been cut....but wait...there's Pant in the deep. What has he done? 0.6 - Zaheer to Dwayne Smith, FOUR, that's a good over which has leaked 18 runs. On a length and robbed of pace, angling away, and this is deliberate from Smith. Opens the bat face, glides it wide of the gully and shaves it through to the third man fence

0.5 - Zaheer to Dwayne Smith, 2 runs, full and wide, a tame push through to long-off for a brace

0.4 - Zaheer to Dwayne Smith, FOUR, edged and wide of the fielder! Duminy was motionless. Gets it to bounce off the turf, Smith raises his bat to punch it, couldn't make up for the bounce and it flies to the left of slip to give him another boundary

0.3 - Zaheer to Dwayne Smith, FOUR, he's India's very own version of Mustafizur. *slow claps* Rolls his fingers, gets it to dart away from a length and Smith's leg-side tuck ekes out an outside edge. Wide of the diving gully and through the gap for a boundary

0.2 - Zaheer to Dwayne Smith, no run, full again, on the stumps to cut the room, and stays low too. Smith stays put and bunts it off the toe-end

0.1 - Zaheer to Dwayne Smith, FOUR, that's a starter for Smith. Full ball pitched wide enough for Smith to lean into it and flog it through the covers. Was expecting it to come in, didn't, and Smith could middle it to perfection

Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum are at the crease. Dwayne Smith is on strike. Zaheer will open the attack

(I)PL needed this, for the nth time this season. The best game of the season? Hell yes, for me, and should do wonders for the underwhelming TV ratings surely. Here's something interesting: for two times in two matches, Gujarat manage to tip-toe to a win despite Man of the Match hailing from the losing side. Morris here, and Kohli in the last game. Go figure.. *insert a team effort cliche*. I fear that's it from me (and my tired fingers) tonight. I know we are hungry for more. Tomorrow's always there; will be for the next one month. It's summer and it's T20 League, fellas! For now, good night from Pratyush Sinha on behalf of Abhishek Chaudhary, Raju Peethala and Siva. Ta-ta!

"Not often that losing team gets the Man of the Match. Very happy but upset that we couldn't get there. Personally happy but like I say, can't help. Happy with my performance. Quite lucky tonight I was. One of those nights where yorkers came out well and the runs came off the middle of the bat. I have practiced my batting a lot in these last few months. I asked Rahul (Dravid) before I came and he asked me to give myself time. It hurts not to be on the winning side, specially in tight games like this but someone is going to lose. Definitely the best T20 game for me as a cricketer. There are a few that stand up but this will be up there in the best ones I have been involved in," says Chris Morris who is the Man of the Match

Raina: "Morris batted well. When he was batting, I thought we would have lost it around the 15th over. Credit to PK, he bowled very well. Bowled the 19th over well and then Bravo's last over was magical. One run always makes a difference. We were under pressure with the dew, but Faulkner did well to take Pant's wicket in the middle. PK bowled well with the new ball too, he is our main weapon. You have to back yourself when you play in Delhi, lot of sixes were hit, like Morris showed us. But one dot ball might win you the game too. Tambe was hit for two sixes by Morris, dew was there too. I took a chance with Smith, but he was hit for three sixes again. PK has been consistent with his yorkers. We have worked really well as a bowling unit. Credit to Heath Streak, our bowling coach, too. He has been giving a lot of tips."

In case you are wondering why something's not up on the website for a few minutes now, well, I am recovering. The team is recovering. When McCullum and Smith were going bazinga, a certain 250 looked on. Then came that baby-crawl to hold them to a relatively modest 172/6. Then Delhi began turtle-ing towards the target. Sigh. I had thrown in the towel. Had given up. Then that partnership happened. Morris and Duminy breathed fire to take the hosts close but Bravo and Praveen Kumar denied it all. Absolute thriller that was far from being conventionally predictable. Phew.

Zaheer: "Lots of positives for us. Pulled it through when the going was tough. Spinners and Morris got us back in the game - with the bat and the ball. JP (Duminy) batted well too. It was anybody's game. We thought Morris would finish it. What is good is that despite a slow start, we managed to get this close. I am very happy with the performance, especially the way guys batted. We created opportunities. Certain things didn't go our way. Little things can change the game - that Morris over for example and then his two overs with the bat. Still a long way to go in the tournament for us, just five games at the moment."

Not often we see such individual heroics failing to get the desired result. Morris was exceptional today, both with the ball and the bat. Just when Delhi looked like they had got themselves in a tunnel with no light at the end, he arrived and started the carnage. Almost pulled things off for his team but for the penultimate over bowled by an experienced PK which made the equation a bit too tough to tackle. Even Bravo was exceptional in the last over to deny Morris and Delhi a win they once thought was in their kitty. Delhi were horrible at the start but brilliance during the end of both the innings got them close. They will rue that despite all that effort they failed to cross the line in the end.

C Morris 82(32) Negi 3(4) Dwayne Bravo 4-0-40-1

19.6 - Dwayne Bravo to C Morris, 2 runs, let me take my blood pressure pill first. Gujarat sneak home by one run! Their first win batting first and what a way to get there. It's that man, Bravo. Hurls this on a yorker length, shifts his radar to follow a backed-away Morris who could only tickle it to mid-wicket. A brace that's not good enough. The throw was fired back in and hence no three runs to force a Super Over. Chris Morris's 32-ball 82 is hosepiped into the flush drains. Poor boy!

Four runs off the last ball. Super Over?

19.5 - Dwayne Bravo to C Morris, 2 runs, can you believe? Jadeja again! Full toss again! Flicked to long-on where Jadeja fires it wide of the keeper. DK fumbles to collect and had he grabbed it, Morris was gone, he had given up. DK also hurt his fingers in the process...

19.4 - Dwayne Bravo to C Morris, 2 runs, wow. What running. Jadeja collects this flicked full toss at long-on, lobbed it instead of firing it in and gave the duo a couple. Actually a throw to the keeper, Morris had reached, then DK throws it to catch Negi short but misses. Drama!

"Morris, Morris" chants

19.3 - Dwayne Bravo to Negi, 1 run, Negi almost falls over. Yorker, a slow one at that, near the back foot and it's been squeezed out to mid-wicket. 8 runs off 3 now!

19.2 - Dwayne Bravo to C Morris, 1 run, tucked off the pads round the corner

19.1 - Dwayne Bravo to C Morris, FOUR, Faulkner has let it (the match?) through. Morris squeezed it out to cover-point, Faulkner leaps to his left but cannot catch it. Races away to the fences. How costly would that drop be?

C Morris 71(27) Negi 2(3) P Kumar 4-0-13-0

18.6 - P Kumar to C Morris, 1 run, end of a superlative spell from Kumar. Figures of 4-0-13-0. Slings it in on the pads, only to see a wristy defence to long-on. Has this over turned things around? 14 runs to get off the last over..

18.5 - P Kumar to Negi, 1 run, terrific! Negi shuffles outside leg to give himself room, PK absolutely follows him with a round-armish dart. Nothing Negi could do. Nothing. Clips it to long-on and hands Morris the strike

Deep point in the ring..

18.4 - P Kumar to C Morris, 1 run, Morris had to do something different. Had the room made already, Kumar bowls it full and on the stumps, expectedly, and Morris had the room to swing it across the line. Not too well-timed and it drops in front on an onrushing long-on

18.3 - P Kumar to C Morris, no run, Kumar is round the wicket to Morris. Hurls this full, on the stumps. So, no length to get under and no width to swing arms. Hats off, PK! Crashed back off the toe-end

17 off 10 balls. Three sixes?

18.2 - P Kumar to Negi, 1 run, very wily. Goes very wide of the crease and absolutely darts it in full, Negi could just jam it out to long-off. The crowd is off sleeping pills...Morris on strike!

18.1 - P Kumar to Negi, no run, bowls it fullish and wide, Negi crashes it but straight to extra cover as Morris watches. Oh..

17.6 - Dwayne Bravo to C Morris, no run, this is beautiful. Yorker just outside off, Morris opens the face of the bat to guide it but misses. So, Negi on strike next ball

17.5 - Dwayne Bravo to C Morris, FOUR, Morris! Morris! Morris! Pure timing. Almost squeezed out this length ball with a punch and tailored the gap between cover and extra cover. Raina ran back, dragged the ball in and but couldn't arrest the head-first slide in the deep. Parries over the ropes...with the ball

17.4 - Dwayne Bravo to C Morris, no run, another one. Dips just in front of the bat and Morris could just dig it back to the bowler. 22 off 14

17.3 - Dwayne Bravo to C Morris, 2 runs, good ball. Goes wide of the crease from round the wicket, swerves this in on just short of a yorker length and allows Morris only a clip to cow corner

17.3 - Dwayne Bravo to C Morris, wide, down leg, Morris doesn't bother with it and it's been wided

17.2 - Dwayne Bravo to C Morris, FOUR, no line and length is going to do. Pitches this up, was off-pace again but Morris is in the mood. Lifts it wide of mid-off delicately and doesn't even bother to run

Pawan Negi, left handed bat, comes to the crease

Good thing is Morris is on strike..

17.1 - Dwayne Bravo to Duminy, out Caught&Bowled!! Oh Duminy! You just had to take a single. Instead uses his feet on this slower delivery, the premeditation meant that he couldn't adjust, was early and the intended loft over Bravo's head was mistimed towards mid-on where the bowler collected with a shuffle - ran back and let his bucket hands do it all. 16.5 - Dwayne Smith to C Morris, 1 run, full toss alright but it dipped to save blushes and Morris clubbed it to long-on for a single of sanity

16.4 - Dwayne Smith to C Morris, SIX, holy moly! A hat-trick of sixes. When was the last time he played a dot? This is getting crazy. Smith is clueless. Bowls it on back of a length and it's slow again, Morris takes the invitation to generate his own power and clobbers it over deep mid-wicket. What over...this was into the stands

16.3 - Dwayne Smith to C Morris, SIX, a Ferrari fifty for Chris Morris! Wow. Just wow. Fastest fifty of this T20 League. Cross-seam but Morris has his magic glasses on. Flat-bats it over Smith's head for 96 metres

16.2 - Dwayne Smith to C Morris, SIX, you don't do that! Just don't. Full toss, really Smith? Swung over deep mid-wicket with a shimmy and disdain. 43 off 22

15.5 - D Kulkarni to Duminy, 1 run, that's charity denied. A full toss dished out, was wide enough for Duminy to reach out but he only slices it to deep backward point

15.4 - D Kulkarni to C Morris, 1 run, bends his back, the ball doesn't ricochet much of the pitch - allowing a cramped short-arm pull to long-on

15.3 - D Kulkarni to Duminy, 1 run, off-pace again but the shorter length allows Duminy to pull this uppishly to deep mid-wicket. Three balls without a boundary. New ball has helped, certainly. No?

15.2 - D Kulkarni to Duminy, no run, delicious slower ball. Rolls his fingers and angles it across, Duminy went for the preplanned slog, the ball scoots over the bat and rolls to the keeper
