Shakib: "I think we are 20-25 runs short. We lost wickets at crucial times and that didn't help our cause. If we bowl to our potential, we can restrict them, but early wickets is the key. We are playing to our strength (referring to them playing 4 fast bowlers), we have a couple of spinners and a few part-timers. They (Tamim and Sarkar) assessed the wicket and thought that it is a good wicket, but with the way we were going, we should have got more."

Sabbir perished trying to up the ante as he missed a quicker one from Jadeja. Shakib got to his fifty but threw away his wicket soon after that, cutting a short and wide delivery from Umesh straight to Jadeja at backward point. Nasir Hossain too scored a handy 27-ball 34 before Jadeja took another good catch to send him on his way back. As wickets kept tumbling towards the end, Mashrafe Mortaza hit a few lusty blows and ensured that the Tigers went past 300, the first time they have done so against India in ODIs.
The rain break lasted for just over an hour and by the time play resumed, Bangladesh's momentum was gone. Ashwin, who had struggled in his first three overs, came back strongly to take 3 Bangladeshi wickets in quick succession. From 123/1, Bangladesh were reduced to 146/4. However, just when India were on top, Sabbir Rahman and Shakib took the attack to the visitors. Both of them combined well and produced an 83-run stand for the fifth wicket, guiding Bangladesh to safer shores.
Bangladesh got off to a brilliant start, courtesy the 102-run opening stand between Soumya Sarkar and Tamim Iqbal. Both the openers made life difficult for the Indian bowlers as they kept smacking them to all corners of the ground. The only Indian bowler who didn't get carved all over was surprisingly Suresh Raina, who bowled a superb first spell. Bangladesh though were cruising along at a lethal pace, until a direct-hit from Suresh Raina saw Soumya Sarkar getting run-out for 54. Soon, the heavens opened up and players were taken off the field.

Tamim: 'We assessed the wicket first. It was coming on nicely. We (him and Soumya Sarkar) thought we need to enjoy out there. It was unfortunate the way he got out, otherwise we could have scored way more. I was also surprised that we were playing four fast bowlers, but they bowled really well. The way young Mustafizur (Rahman) bowled was exceptional. He is a youngster, he bowled brilliantly and he will do great for Bangladesh in the future. It's true that if you don't express yourself in the middle, it is a waste of your talent. That's what the coach tells us and that's what we try and do out there.'
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh posted their first 300-plus score against India in ODIs. Tamim and Sarkar got them off to a superb start as the duo played some fearless cricket to put on 102 for the first wicket. Both batsmen got to their fifties but couldn't convert them into a big score. Shakib steadied the innings after they lost few quick wickets. However, India kept plugging away and didn't allow the hosts to bat out their 50 overs.
What a debut for Mustafizur Rahman. He became the second Bangladeshi bowler to pick a 5-wicket haul on debut. The key to his success was his clever change of pace. He used the off-cutter to good effect and outfoxed the Indian batsmen. The batters found it difficult to pick him. Taskin was the perfect foil for him as he hit the deck hard and scalped the first two wickets of the innings. Mortaza, Nasir and Shakib played the supporting roles to good effect.
India started the chase on a positive note. Though Dhawan and Rohit had a few nervy moments, the pair bided their time before playing their shots. Rohit in particular looked in fine touch as he reached his 26th ODI fifty. Dhawan was given a couple of chances, but his luck ran out while on 30. The visitors then lost a slew of wickets. Kohli, Rohit, Rahane and Dhoni fell in quick succession as India slipped from 95/0 to 128/5. Raina and Jadeja kept them in the game with a 60-run stand, but the former dragged one back to expose the tail. Jadeja was running out of partners and perished trying to score runs quickly. Bhuvi and Co. threw their bats around before the inevitable happened.
The Bangladeshi players are delighted with this win. This is only the fourth time they have beaten India in an ODI. Mortaza and Taskin jump high and chest-bump each other in excitement. A few of them are dancing. Mortaza and Rubel are having a little jig in the middle, with the rest of the Bangladeshi players standing around them. Not to forget, this is Bangladesh's 9th consecutive ODI win at home
