James Pattinson ruled out of Thunder clash

Paceman James Pattinson has been ruled out of Melbourne Renegades's season opener against defending champions Sydney Thunder tomorrow night.

The 26-year-old was poised to make his return to elite cricket after a frustrating run of injuries, but a hamstring strain - described as "mild" by the Renegades - means Pattinson will be on the sidelines for the clash at Etihad Stadium.

Pattinson, who has 70 wickets from just 17 Tests, developed a bone stress injury in his left shin following the Test in Christchurch, with that complaint ruling him out for the rest of the domestic summer.

He then suffered a relapse of stress fractures in his back in May.

Coach Andrew McDonald said,

James has worked extremely hard over a long period of time to get his body right so we’re treating this as a minor hold-up in his return to playing at the elite level with us.

However, Pattinson could make his return against the Perth Scorchers on December 29.

The fixture against the Thunder will mark the first time the Renegades have opened their campaign at home since BBL|02.
